Pacquiao waiting for Mayweather

pac754

By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao is still waiting on a second fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. to try and avenge his loss from a year ago in 2015. The soon to be 38-year-old Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) recently emerged from a seven-month retirement to defeat WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas by a 12 round unanimous decision in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather hasn’t given any indication whether he’ll be coming out of his now one-year retirement to resume his boxing career, even though he could make a bundle fighting Pacquiao a second time. Mayweather has made a fortune during his career, and he’s also made wise investments. He doesn’t need to fight anymore with the kind of money he’s made.

Mayweather-Pacquiao: Scorecards, Punch Stats and the Fight of the Century

Floyd Mayweather winsBy Paddy Dwyer: In the aftermath of the richest fight in history there have been a number of observers who have sought to find a way to score the bout to Manny Pacquiao. For transparency, this writer scored the fight 117-111 in favor of Mayweather giving Pacquiao the fourth, sixth and twelfth rounds. There is an argument to give Floyd round twelve and an argument to give Manny round seven (or of course share these respective rounds). However, as a longtime observer of the sport, there was little on display to make a case for giving any more than four rounds to the man from the Philippines.

Scoring is inherently subjective and there have been a number of decisions over the years which have been hideous. There are also a number which, while not necessarily “robberies”, are contentious but one can understand the scorecard which was ultimately read out.

The negotiations have become slowed due to Showtime and HBO still hashing it out, so Mayweather isn’t going to sign off on something that still hasn’t been worked out by the networks.

Real Talk: Time for Mayweather and Pacquiao to put differences aside an give fans what they want

pac04By Thomas Cowan: If you are one of many boxing fans in USA who have paid to watch Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao’s fights for the best part of a decade, you will have parted with about $1000 of your hard-earned money and helped to make these two men very rich. For 5 years the boxing world has been desperate to see them fight each other and it hasn’t happened. It has to happen if either of the two greatest fighters of this era want to be seriously considered among the true boxing greats like Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong and Muhammad Ali.

Pacquiao’s fans will tell you he is the better fighter. They will say he is the only eight-division world champion in history. They will say his performances against Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya were far more impressive than Mayweather’s performances against the same opponents. They will say he will overwhelm Mayweather’s defense with his high work-rate.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather discussion

Boxing cannot afford to miss the mark at this critical moment. The call is to side with truth and stand in the gap. It’s time for every sports lover to take steps unhesitatingly for the good of all and the Sweet Science.

Reason is deaf to “reasoning” that insults intelligence. Halt dim “defenses” being proffered in media these days to conceal the light by hacks or by knocks. Debunk pretenses, for who can defend the defenseless? No moron, not even Gandhi or Hitler.

But why rush to officially announce the “Pacquiao-Bradley” rematch as reported? Are wily Bob and devious Koncz afraid that they would not earn the usual bucks from their cash cow in the proposed “Charity Fight”? They say the offer is serious but their actions tell it’s not. Why panic?

Robert Garcia: Mayweather shouldn’t fight Pacquiao at all

floyd89897By Chris Williams: The well respected trainer Robert Garcia of Oxnard Gym doesn’t think Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) should ever bother giving Filipino star Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) a fight. Garcia thinks the fight should have happened years ago, and there’s no point in them fighting now. He sees Mayweather in a comfortable situation where he’s making $50 million or more per fight, and he doesn’t need to fight Pacquiao in order to make big money. It’s Pacquiao who badly needs him in order to get a huge payday.

“Mayweather’s too smart [for Pacquiao], he’s too fast,” Garcia said to esnewsreporting. “If I was Floyd, I wouldn’t fight him. If I’m still making $50 million. They didn’t fight when they should have. Why now? I wouldn’t [fight Pacquiao]. He made $100 million, so he don’t have to fight him. If he loses, imagine. Just like [Juan Manuel] Marquez. I wouldn’t fight Manny anymore.”

Pacquiao: I’m not chasing Mayweather Jr.

pac2788By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KO’s) says he’s not chasing after Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) to try and get a big money fight. However, Mayweather feels that he is, describing him as a “Begging for the fight,” in an interview with Fighthype. Whatever the reality, a Mayweather fight would surely help Pacquiao’s financial situation right now and I doubt he would turn it down if Mayweather opened his mouth to offer him the fight.

“First, I would like to make it clear that I am not chasing him,” Pacquiao said on DAZR via Philboxing. “I want to face him in the ring for boxing fans in particular and sports fans. Rather than a dog running with it’s tail between his legs in utter show of fear, at least I look for more fights. I don’t run away from them.”
