Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr: Final thoughts and predictions

1-Pacquiao_fan rally_150428_006aBy TFF: The most anticipated fight in boxing history will be taking place this Saturday night on May 2nd between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in their pay-per-view bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. So who’s going to win?

I suppose my opinion is irreverent at this point with just a few more days till we finally get the answer. Many people make valid cases as to why one would dominate the other. In the end we may end up with a closer fight than we thought, or a complete mismatch which I hope is not the case.

Styles make fights: A brief history lesson

By TFF: We hear the term “styles make fights” thrown around a lot but to the casual boxing fan this term has no meaning due to lack of understanding. I’ll use for this an example the more current Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr as well as Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Shane Mosley and the fabulous four: Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Will Mayweather ever agree to fight Pacquiao?

1-pac-algieri.fn_.02.500w-420x251By TFF: After watching Pacquiao display a dominant performance against Algieri, the possibility of Pac-Mayweather is definitely now more interesting for us boxing fans, but to Floyd Mayweather Jr.. who knows?

Some will say that Floyd is already counting the money he’s going to make off a Pacquiao fight and others will say he’s running for the hills right about now…here’s what I think: Algieri is no Mayweather Jr but the shut out win victory Pacquiao put on Algieri is at the very least a clear sign why Pacquiao belongs in the same ring with Mayweather Jr. Algieri is no push over and although very few gave him a chance to pull off a victory over Manny Pacquiao, no one would have bet money on how the lopsided fight was.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Realistically who would win?

floyd002By TFF: The question has been in everyone’s mind since the possibility of the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao fight first came up like 6 years ago. It’s been a ridiculously long time for sure when in other boxing eras we would have had a definitive answer 5 years ago based on fight outcome as to who would have dominated who. So whose fault was it then and whose fault is it now for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight not taking place?

The truth as to whose fault it was years ago is not as clear as day or night but the truth as to who’s responsible in recent times for the fight not happening should be as clear as a flawless diamond. The truth in most cases lies somewhere in the middle, but time tends to clarify things a bit more, and more of the truth will eventually swing one way or the other.

Mayweather has officially run out of excuses

floyd10By TFF: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) may not like Bob Arum, the promoter for WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), and have no desire to do business with the man but wouldn’t that dislike be null and void if doing business with the man would net you more than twice the payday that he could acquire on his own merit/popularity? By that I mean a Pacquiao fight obviously.

In fact, it was posted a little over a week ago that Mayweather Jr has made roughly $400 million in his entire career. That’s impressive indeed but it pales in comparison to the possibility that Mayweather could net close to $300 million in a Pacquiao fight and a Pacquiao rematch for his last 2 fights.
