Groves decisions Rebrasse, looks poor

groves56By Scott Gilfoid: A very tired looking George Groves (20-2, 15 Kos) struggled to defeat the light hitting EBU super middleweight champion Christopher Rebrasse (22-3-3, 6 KOs) on Saturday night by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. The final judges’ scores were 118-110, 118-110 and 117-111. Groves threw over 1000 punches

Groves was wobbled a couple of times by the light hitting Rebrasse and that’s really troubling. Both Carl Froch and Tony Bellew expressed doubts that Groves would be able to defeat WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell if that’s going to be his next fight.

Groves: Once I beat Rebrasse, I’m coming for Dirrell

groves88(Photo credit: Philip Sharkey) By Scott Gilfoid: Having been knocked out twice in a row in his last two fights has done nothing to diminish George Groves’ self-belief apparently, because he feels that he’s going to not only beat EBU super middleweight champion Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) tonight in their WBC 168 pound title eliminator, but he’s then going to go on and beat the talented WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0, 22 KOs) to take his strap from him.

Groves thinks that Dirrell’s disgust at the potential of him having to defend his title against a fighter with two recent knockouts is a sign that Dirrell is afraid of him rather than him believing that the World Boxing Council has cheapened their own title by lowering the standards for which a fighter can fight for their belt.

Weights: Groves 167.4, Rebrasse 167.5

groves66(Photo credit: Photo Credit: Philip Sharkey) By Scott Gilfoid: The recently twice beaten #4 WBC George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) will be looking to end his two-fight losing streak on Saturday night against EBU 168lb strap holder Christopher Rebrasse at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Groves weighed in at 167.4 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in. Rebrasse, 28, weighed in at a slim 167.5 pounds.

This is kind of a make or break fight for the 26-year-old Groves because the World Boxing Council are already throwing him a bone by letting him fight for an WBC super middleweight eliminator bout against Rebrasse off of back to back knockout losses.

Dirrell: Groves will need to come to the U.S if he wants to fight for my title

groves#10By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell still hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he could very well be soon defending his title against George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs), possibly in December of this year if Groves defeats #3 WBC Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) this Saturday night in their WBC super middleweight title eliminator at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Dirrell is unhappy that the WBC has given Groves an immediate chance to put himself in line to fight for a world title after consecutive losses to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

Groves gains confidence from sparring session with Golovkin

groves6998By Scott Gilfoid: Former two time world title challenger George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) says he gained a ton of confidence from his sparring session with WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last July.

Groves sparred a little with Golovkin to get him ready for his title defense against Daniel Geale on July 26th, and Groves claims he did well during the sparring session. Groves didn’t say who got the better of who or if he was injured or knocked down during the session, but evidently Groves came away the sparring session with confidence that he still has it after his back to back knockout losses to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch.

Groves wants Dirrell fight in December, sees him easily beatable

groves55(Photo Credit: Philip Sharkey) By Scott Gilfoid: #4 WBC George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) says he sees WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell as more beatable fighter than Sakio Bika, and he thinks it’s a good thing that he could be potentially facing him in the near future if he can defeat little known #3 WBC Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night, September 20th at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

The World Boxing Council made the Groves-Rebrasse fight as a final WBC 168 pound eliminator bout despite the fact that Groves has lost his last two fights by knockout to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch. That’s what Dirrell took issue with, the WBC letting Groves fight in an eliminator bout off of two defeats in a row.

George Groves – Looking to bounce back

groves6(Photo Credit: Philip Sharkey) By Daniel Hughes: George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) faces Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at Wembley Arena, in London, England for the European super-middleweight title and the chance of again putting himself back in line for challenging for world honours. It is certainly a must win fight for Groves and a fight he will want to certainly look good in coming off back to back world title defeats to Carl Froch.

It has been a little over three months since Groves was ko’d against Froch at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 fans and a worldwide TV audience the fight against Rebrasse at Wembley Arena is a stone’s throw away from his last outing. The opponent Frenchman, Rebrasse for me ideal in that he has not been stopped.

Dirrell: Groves doesn’t deserve a shot at my title

groves78899By Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-0-1, 22 KOs) feels that #4 WBC George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) doesn’t deserve a shot at his WBC 168 pound title, even if he defeats little known #3 WBC Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) this Saturday night in their WBC super middleweight title eliminator at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

The winner of the Groves-Rebrasse fight will become the mandatory challenger for Dirrell’s WBC belt. Dirrell doesn’t see Groves as a deserving challenger because of his two consecutive knockout losses to IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch in his last two fights.

Groves: Rebrasse is dangerous because of his ambition and dreams

groves4By Scott Gilfoid: George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) is one week away from his WBC super middleweight eliminator bout against France’s Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) on September 20th at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

This is a fight that Groves absolutely must win if he’s going to be able to get locked into the mandatory position for a title shot against WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell.

It’s also a fight that Groves must win for him to keep alive the hopes, as slim as they are, for a third fight against IBF/WBA 168 pound champion Carl Froch. Groves has been knocked out twice in a row by Froch, but Groves still thinks that Froch wants to fight him. With the easy cash that Froch made off of the two fights against Groves, you can’t blame Froch if he does decide to fight Groves again.

Rebrasse sees Groves as speed bump in his path

groves7By Scott Gilfoid: #3 WBC Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) is on a quest to try and lock himself in as the WBC 168 pound mandatory challenger to WBC champion Anthony Dirrell, and the only one that stands in his path from accomplishing that goal is the recently twice knocked out George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs).

Rebrasse, 28, believes completely that he’s going to deal Groves yet another loss on his record when the two face each other in 10 days on September 20th in their WBC super middleweight title eliminator bout at Wembley Arena in London, UK.
