Felix Sturm fails drug test for Fedor Chudinov fight

sturm900By Jim Dower: WBA World super middleweight champion Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) has reportedly tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid stanozolol from his controversial 12 round majority decision win over Fedor Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) two months ago in their fight on February 20 at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany.

The judges scored the fight 115-113 and 115-113 for Sturm, and 114-114. However, many boxing fans felt that Chudinov had done more than enough to deserve the victory over the German based Sturm. Unfortunately, the ending was controversial and was seen by a lot of fans as Sturm winning a hometown decision.

Chudinov – Sturm glove controversy

chudinov66666By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov’s camp is reportedly complaining about the gloves that Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) was given for his title defense last Saturday night against home fighter Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) in their fight at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany.

According to Fight News, Chudinov’s Grant gloves were shedding red paint during the fight. The paint seems to have stained Chudinov’s tape around his wrists red. You can also see the same red stain in Sturm’s hand wraps despite the fact that he had green gloves and started the fight with white tape. The tape turned to red. Sturm also used Grant gloves. It would be interesting to know if the gloves had been tested before in other fights or if this was a new design with a no red ink for the color of the gloves.

Both fighter’s gloves will be inspected to see if something was wrong.

Chudinov disagrees with decision in loss to Sturm

chudinov700By Scott Gilfoid: After landing over 100 more punches than Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) and still find himself on the losing end of a controversial 12 round majority decision, Fedor Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) is not surprisingly unhappy with losing his WBA Super World super middleweight title to the German based Sturm at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Germany.

Chudinov connected on 297 of 1022 punches compared to Sturm’s 184 of 605 punches thrown, according to Fight News. While you can make an argument that Sturm landed the cleaner shots in many rounds, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that Chudinov was outworking and out-landing him in virtually every round of the fight. Chudinov’s punches weren’t the weak variety. They may have been lacking the hand speed that Sturm had, but Chudinov was still throwing with good punching power.

“There were a few clashes of our heads. Sometimes it was his fault, sometimes mine, but I don’t agree with the decision,” Chudinov said via fightnews.com.

Sturm considering retirement

sturm900By Scott Gilfoid: After winning a very controversial 12 round majority decision last Saturday night over WBA Super World super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs), 37-year-old Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) says he’s thinking of retiring from the sport after 15 years in the ring.

Sturm appeared to lose the fight against Chudinov in the minds of many boxing fans, but the three judges scored it 114-114, 115-113 and 115-113 for Sturm at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany.

Sturm was outworked the entire fight, and looked shot fighter in my view. I had Sturm winning all of three rounds, and losing the other nine. It was a very one-sided fight in my view, but I’m not one of the three judges that were scoring it.

Sturm decisions Chudinov, captures WBA 168lb title

sturm445By Jim Dower: Former middleweight world champion Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) showed that he still has a little left in the tank in beating previously undefeated WBA Super World super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) by a close 12 round majority decision on Saturday night to win his WBA title at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany.

The fight was very close affair with Chudinov outworking Sturm from the third round on. However, Sturm landed the cleaner shots in most of the rounds, and that was what the judges focused on. Chudinov appeared to out-land Sturm by a 3 to 1 margin on by punch stats, but Sturm landed the cleaner shots when he did land. Further, Sturm had the crowd cheering loudly each time he would land anything, and that might impressed the judges.

Fedor Chudinov vs. Felix Sturm analysis and prediction

sturm4(Photo credit: Team Sturm) By Scott Gilfoid: 37-year-old Felix Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KOs) will get his shot at revenge tonight when he faces WBA World 168lb champion Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10 KOs) in a rematch at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany. Sturm lost a 12 round split decision nine months ago to Chudinov in May of 2015.

The World Boxing Association is letting Sturm get a rematch, even though it was a clear decision win by Chudinov the last time out. It should have been a unanimous decision win instead of a split decision, because there is no way on earth that Sturm deserved a victory in that fight because he was just taking punishment.
