Image: Adrien Broner exclaims that he would ‘Kill’ Katsidis if they were to fightBy Dallan o’ Donnell: WBO Super- feather weight champion Adrien Broner has been running his mouth on Twitter by issuing a statement to Aussie brawler Michael Katsidis saying “You were a decent fighter long ago, but at the end of the day I will kill you partner”.

Broner obviously fears nobody and why should he, with an impeccable record of 23 wins from 23 with 19 KO’s.

The outspoken 22 year-old has of course, compared himself to pound for pound champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. but at such a tender age he should perhaps learn to respect his elders and not say such derogatory things to a great guy and a fighter such as Katsidis. Katsidis is an old-fashioned fighter, a throwback to an era that ceased to exist long ago and like Carl Froch, Katsidis possesses a Spartan mentality in and out of the ring. Of course he famously did 12 rounds of pad-work in his dressing room before a big fight.

He is a true professional and trains and fights as if it were a case of life and death. Katsidis has fought wars in the ring, but after losing 4 of 5 fights many think his days are numbered in the sport. I was one of many who called on Katsidis to retire after he lost to Scot Ricky Burns, but Katsidis must feel he has one big bout in him yet and it seems he has sought out Broner.

I have in the past tipped Broner to be the next big thing. He will one day be a huge PPV draw and possibly take over the mantle from Pound for Pound King Floyd Mayweather after he retires although he has a few challengers who will be up there with him.

Broner did say that he respected Katsidis but also said that Katsidis was basically past his best and he would hurt him badly and unfortunately for Katsidis it probably is the case. But being a huge Katsidis fan I would love to see him win a fully-fledged world title before he does hang up his gloves. He deserves it. But Broner is not the right fighter he should be chasing.

Broner will be facing Vincente Escobedo next on July 21st in Ohio. I think Broner will move on to huge things in the future and it is only fair that he sees Katsidis as a fighter not worthy of his time. But personally I think a Broner- Katsidis fight would be very entertaining and although we will learn a lot about Broner against Escobedo we could learn much more from a Katsidis bout, a man who has been in with very talented guys like Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, whom he actually put on the floor (although he did go on to lose the fight by stoppage). Broner needs tough fights for the fans to truly believe he will be one to watch in the future and they don’t get much tougher than Katsidis. Although I believe Broner would beat Katsidis by KO.

If Katsidis is to continue his career I would like to see him go out with a bang. And a world title if he could. But most importantly to leave the sport with a few wins under his belt. Nobody wants to retire with 4 losses in 5 fights. Hopefully he does stay away from Broner. He might just be too good.

But if anything it shows that character and mentality of the Aussie brawler to want the big fights and fight the best out there.

Should Katsidis retire?

Will Broner be as good as I think he could be? Comment or tell me on Twitter @dallan09
