Bill isn’t going to accommodate the aging past his best Broner to give him the payday that he’s seeking in a fight against Haney, who is not as popular as AB was during his prime, but he’s got a good hustle going, thanks to the matchmaking being done for him and make good money beating older fighters.

Respectful Rebuff

Speaking like he was reading a written statement, Bill Haney acknowledged that the former four-division world champion Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) had “presented the respect for boxing” in the past, but now this is the “Devin Haney era.”

The message was clear: You’re not wanted, AB. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is targeting the big names of this generation of fighters, the likes of Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, and Mario Barrios.

Although Broner was a huge star during his day a decade ago, around 2013, he’s now a fossil, a relic from the past bygone era, and invisible to boxing fans of this generation.

Passing the Torch

Bill Haney: “Ab, Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner. The real problem AB is you put you versus Dev on your IG, so I hit you,” said Bill on social media. “Out of respect for you and the boxing community in general, the message was seen.

“So you and I know what that means. Broner, you once presented the respect for boxing and the respect of the hood. Don’t worry about it, AB. We’re going to take it over from here,” said Bill, letting the past his best, faded soon-to-be 35-year-old Broner that his son, Devin Haney, will be ‘taking over.’

Devin’s Reign

“It’s the Devin Haney era, and you knew we was going to pull up. It’s business, not personal. Get back to doing what you doing, brother, and Devin is doing what he’s doing – representing this stuff to the fullest. Y’all have a blessed day on purpose,” said Bill.

In some ways, Haney’s career is mirroring Broner’s because Devin is being matched against older, faded fighters, smaller than himself; that’s how AB was doing it during his best years from 2010 to 2013.
