In some bad news for Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner’s fans, he suffered a right-hand injury. He won’t be able to face Chris Howard (18-2-1, 8 KOs) on December 2nd in their previously planned ten round headliner contest at the Casino Miami Jai Ali.
Broner doesn’t want to be slowed down by this setback and is throwing his hat in the ring to let the champions at 140 & 147 know he’ll be ready to challenge for a world title in February.
The former four-division world champion Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) isn’t discouraged by his injury, and he still wants to fight Ryan Garcia, WBA 140-lb champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, or the winner of the December 9th bout between WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis & Devin Haney next in February.
Broner’s promoter, Don King, will have to work his magic to get any of those fights for him because, thus far, none of those fighters have mentioned wanting to fight him next.
AB says he’d be open to a fight for a world title at 147 as well, which narrows things down to newly crowned IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis or WBA/WBC/WBO three-belt champ Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford if Broner is to get a chance to battle for a strap.
“The hell with tune-up fights. I’m ready to take on any of the champions in the 140- and 147-pound division. I’m ready to fight the big guys. Everything they think I don’t have, I still got. I’m ready to fight Ryan Garcia or Rolando Romero or the winner of the Regis Prograis vs. Devin Haney fight,” said Broner.
The fifteen-year pro AB, 34, isn’t saying who he’ll fight if he can get any of the fighters on his wishlist for February, but it wouldn’t hurt if he took on one of the contenders at 140 or 147 to prove to the boxing public that he deserves to fight for a world title instead of having it given to him on a silver platter.
These would be good proving fights for #15 WBC Broner to show the fans that he’s not the over-the-hill fighter that they think he is:

Given Broner’s inactivity over the last five years, the popularity that he once enjoyed with the fans has deteriorated to the extent that he’s no longer viewed as a marquee fighter.
That’s why it’s important that he defeat one or two of the above fighters to show that he’s still for real and worthy of a title fight.
