Adrien Broner says he’s training, waiting for a call for a fight, and he hints that he’s got something big lined up. The once-promising star hopes for a new beginning to rebuild his career and get back on track after a few setbacks.
In the last decade, Broner has had this share of ups & downs, with some disappointing losses. He’s gotten serious about his career, and he’s that one win to turn things around.
Things are looking bleak for Broner right now, as he’s fighting often, and he’s now reduced to facing obscure fighters that few fans have heard of.
The former four-division world champion Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) is ready for anything coming his way. He’d like to capture a world title at 140, but he needs the opportunity.
Is it too late for redemption?
It won’t be easy for Broner to return to his glory without PBC or Golden Boy reaching out to his promoter, Don King, to give him a chance to fight one of their big-name fighters.
Ideally, that would come against WBC champion Devin Haney, who pumped life into the light welterweight division with his win over Regis Prograis last Saturday night.
Soon to be 35, the graying, tired-looking Broner seemed to liven up today when told that Ryan Garcia was interested in fighting him.
At this point in AB’s fifteen-year professional career, a fight with Ryan would be a massive boost. It’s unlikely that any major players at 140 or 147 would look Broner’s way because he’s been too inactive and repeatedly lost when facing good opposition.
“Hello. I’m going to fight all of these [fighters],” said Adrien Broner to Fighthype when asked about Ryan Garcia showing interest in fighting him. “A lot of people say this or say that, but I’m training. I’m ready.
“If they call me, I’m ready, but I’ve got some s*** lined up, though,” said Broner, hinting about a big fight in the works.
Many fans view Broner as an example of a fighter who wasted his potential, not staying dedicated to his craft, failing to stay in shape, and staying active in the last five years since 2018.
Some would argue that former PPV star attraction Broner had his window, and it’s over with him. No longer in demand, he’s seen as washed by fans and no longer offered the big fights because he can’t be counted on to win or even look good.
Looking back at some of the beautiful homes Broner had in the past, you can tell he was living well during his best years. Is it too late for AB to turn things around? He has the skills but needs to stay in the gym and compete at 140 or 135.
He’s too small & weak for the 147-lb division, and it was a mistake for him to move up to that division in 2013. Before that, his career had been doing well, winning world titles at 130 & 135 and being viewed as the replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr.
