Robert Guerrero: I clearly won the fight

Image: Robert Guerrero: I clearly won the fight

By Dan Ambrose: #13 WBC welterweight contender Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-5-1, 18 KOs) seems to be in real denial about his 12 round split decision loss to unheralded Argentinian David Emanuel Peralta (26-2-1, 14 KOs) last Saturday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Guerrero, 33, thinks he should have won the fight despite the fact that he totally caved in from round five to twelve of the contest. Guerrero gassed out in a way that left no doubt who the better fighter was between the two aging welterweights. That’s not to say Peralta looked good, because he didn’t. It was a case of Guerrero looking dreadful after the 4th round.

By Patrick McHugh: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) will be facing David Peralta (25-2-1, 14 KOs) tonight in a crucial 12-round fight that could either breathe new life into his sagging career or finish him off for good on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. #13 WBC Guerrero has been entertaining thoughts of a rematch against WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

For Guerrero to eventually get that rematch with Garcia, he’s going to need to win all of his fights from this point on. Garcia might wind up losing to someone eventually, but he’s probably not going to want to bother fighting Guerrero again unless he’s winning and looking good.

Guerrero: Golovkin is fighting the little guy

guerrero (3)

By Patrick McHugh: Welterweight contender Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero thinks it’s funny that IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) is fighting a welterweight in Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) in his next fight after Golovkin had expressed disappointment in the past at former WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fighting welterweight Amir Khan last May. Guerrero thinks that Golovkin is doing the exact same thing that Canelo did by fighting a welterweight. Guerrero says that boxing fans want to see Golovkin fight Canelo, and that’s the fight that should be happening.

What Guerrero fails to say is that Golovkin isn’t the one that is dragging his feet to keep the fight from taking place. Golovkin is ready to fight Canelo as soon as possible, but he’s being met with road blocks that are keeping the fight from taking place. Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions aren’t interested in making the Golovkin fight until fall of 2017, and even then, it’s not a given that the two will face each other.

Guerrero: Kell Brook is crazy to fight Golovkin

Image: Guerrero: Kell Brook is crazy to fight Golovkin

By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero thinks Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is crazy to be moving up two weight divisions to take on unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0 32 KOs) on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Guerrero thinks Brook should have at least fought a couple of tune-up fights at 160 beore taking on Golovkin, who he rates as the best fighter in the middleweight division today. Guerrero thinks that the 30-year-old Brook is taking a dangerous move by jumping straight into the middleweight division against Golovkin rather than easing his way in by facing a couple of guys to get acclimated to the weight. Guerrero sees this fight as one that could wind up with Brook getting hurt.

guerrero#1

By Dan Ambrose: Former two-division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) will be fighting next month against 33-year-old Argentinian David Emanuel Peralta (25-2-1, 14 KOs) on August 27 in a 10 round scheduled bout at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. This is the first fight for Guerrero, 33, since his narrow 12 round unanimous decision loss to Danny Garcia last January in a failed attempt to win the vacant WBC welterweight title at the Staples Center in Carson, California. The fight will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV.

Guerrero lost the Danny Garciafight on the cards by the scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. It’s now been six months since Guerrero’s loss, but he’s taking a weak opponent for this fight. Guerrero gave Garcia some problems in that fight, but he didn’t have the power and didn’t put enough pressure on him to win. It was still a very close fight.
