Mayweather thinks Mosley doesn’t have much left for Pacquiao

By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t like Shane Mosley’s chances against Manny Pacquiao in their little mega fight at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7th. Speaking with Ben Thompson at fighthype.com, Mayweather said “I don’t think Shane really has too much left at 39-years-old. From the outside looking in, people didn’t realize how tough of a fight it was with me, but was a tough fight for him. I think that was his last hurrah.”

Mayweather is talking about his 12 round beating he gave Mosley last year in May. Mayweather had problems initially with Mosley, but then shut him down completely after the 2nd round and punishing him the rest of the way. The fight was so one-sided that many boxing fans felt that Mosley should immediately retire because of how bad he looked in the fight.

Instead of retiring, Mosley chose to fight former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora last year in September, and ended up taking another beating but was given a tremendous break when the referees scored it a 12 round draw. Believe me, that fight wasn’t a draw. Mora dominated and schooled Mosley, but had to settle for a 12 round draw. That fight showed how hard it is to win a decision over a popular fighter like Mosley.

Mayweather’s win over Mosley makes it seem all the more strange that Pacquiao has picked out the shot looking Mosley to fight instead of someone more relevant Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams or Andre Berto. Those would have been great fights. The Mosley bout won’t be because of how shot he’s looking now.
