Froch-Johnson on 5/21 at the O2 Arena, in London

By Scott Gilfoid: It’s looking like Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) is going to have to travel to England on May 21st to face WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) at the O2 Arena, in Greenwich, London. I don’t like this for Johnson. I think he’s going to have problems in this fight if he doesn’t score a knockout. Froch was able to win a controversial 12 round decision over Andre Dirrell while fighting at home in England in his first fight in the Super Six tournament in 2009.

While Froch’s British fans felt he rightfully won the fight, much of the rest of the world disagree, and saw Dirrell beating Froch. Now it’s Johnson’s turn. My advice for Johnson is to try and get Froch out of there as fast as possible because I can’t see Johnson being able to win a decision in England unless he does something extraordinary like knocking Froch down five or six times with the knockdowns coming in separate rounds.

If Johnson is smart, he’ll have a hissy fit about the Froch fight taking place in England and will refuse to fight there. The fight needs to take place in a neutral country like the United States. They need to place the fight in Las Vegas, and put someone like Jay Nady in there to make sure no extracurricular activities go on in terms of fouling from Froch. Nady is a tough referee that doesn’t stand for fouling. If Froch gets rough, Nady will nip that in the bud quickly by penalizing Froch until he’s playing nice.
