Broner vs. Molina: Adrien vowing to become world champion at 140

broner#1By Allan Fox: After a year of taking soft fights at light welterweight, Adrien Broner (29-1, 22 KOs) will be taking a step up in class against lightweight slugger John Molina (27-5, 22 KOs) on March 7th on NBC’s series called “Premier Boxing Champions” at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner, 26, sees the Molina fight as bringing him a step closer to winning a 140 pound title. Broner has already won world titles at 130, 135 and 147. Broner’s time as the IBF welterweight champion was short, as he was beaten soundly by Marcos Maidana in a fight in September 2013.

Broner, 25, is predicting a knockout victory over the hard hitting Molina, although it’s hard to see that happening in light of Broner’s recent performances.

Adrien Broner suspended by WBC for comment after win over Carlos Molina

broner455By Allan Fox: The World Boxing Council has suspended former two division world champion Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KO’s) for his comment he made to Showtime following his 10 round unanimous decision win over Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO’s) last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Broner easily out-pointed Molina on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana fight. The WBC wants an apology from Broner for them to lift the suspension.

In the post-fight interview with Showtime’s Jim Gray, Broner said “I just beat the [expletive] out of a Mexican.” Gray immediately told Broner not to talk like that and he was on his best behavior for the remainder of the interview. However, the damage was done because the crowd booed Broner, and boxing fans at home likely were in shock at the comment.

Adrien Broner says he wants Pacquiao before he retires

broner`11By Dan Ambrose: After last night’s one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over a over-matched Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO’s), Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KO’s) gave a profanity laced interview with Showtime commentator Jim Gray where Broner said he doesn’t make his fights but one fight he’d like to take is against Manny Pacquiao. The interview ended at that point, because Pacquiao fights on Showtime’s rival network HBO and the chances of Broner getting his wish for a Pacquiao fight were entirely unrealistic.

“As you can see I didn’t really go through any trouble in the fight,” Broner said. “It was a sparring match on TV. At the end of the day I’m still Adrien Broner. Anyone can get it, Africans, I just beat the [expletive] out of a Mexican. At the end of the day I don’t make my fights; I’m just a fighter. I will fight anybody, and I want Manny Pacquiao before he leaves.”

Broner decisions Molina, fails to impress

006 Broner victory IMG_0074(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KO’s) defeated an over-matched and smaller Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the 2nd round, Molina hit Broner with two big right hands to the head that caused Broner to back up to the ropes. Molina didn’t have the power on his shots to hurt Broner, but with the way those shots landed, Broner would have been in trouble had he been in the ring with Marcos Maidana again.

Adrien Broner faces Carlos Molina tonight

broner554(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Allan Fox: Former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) will be back in the ring tonight against the shorter 5’5″ Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Broner is looking to get an easy win over Molina before possibly fighting for a world title at 140 later this year.

Broner is dropping down a weight class from 147 in order to try and capture a title in the light welterweight class, but he doesn’t intend on fighting in just one weight class. He’s interested in moving back up to welterweight at a later time and avenging his loss to Marcos Maidana, who beat him by a 12 round decision last year in December. Broner is also open to fighting at lightweight against the right opponent.

Broner: I’m a main event fighter

Adrien Broner(Photo credit: Esther Lin/showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) sounded defensive at times during Thursday’s final press conference with his opponent Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) for their fight on Saturday night. Broner’s fight against 2nd tier fighter Molina is buried down in the third fight from the main event on Floyd Mayweather’s fight card on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before this fight, Broner had been a main event fighter, but his one-sided loss to Marcos Maidana last December put Broner seems to have taken some air out of his career to where he’s now on Mayweather’s undercard rather than head-lining his own fight card.

Broner: Carlos Molina is a punching bag with arms and legs

Broner and Molina(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) will be trying to look good this Saturday night in his tune-up/stay busy fight against Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Golden Boy Promotions and Broner’s adviser Al Haymon have backed him off of world class opposition following his one-sided 12 round decision loss to Marcos Maidana last December in order to get Broner back on the winning track. Molina doesn’t have the talent to compete with Broner, or at least he shouldn’t have the talent to compete with him.

Khan and Broner with a lot on the line this Saturday

broner660By Dan Ambrose: Both Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) and Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) have a great deal on the line for their respective fight’s this Saturday night on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The question is who needs the victory more on Saturday night: Broner or Khan? Broner faces Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s), and he needs a victory to keep his career afloat to continue his illusion of being the guy that replaces his “big brother” Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the future.

A loss to Molina won’t end Broner’s career, but it will put him in a different lane to where he’ll likely never emerge from. His idea of becoming the replacement for Mayweather will be over, and he could also pretty much forget about ever being a pay-per-view fighter in his own right. That doesn’t mean that Golden Boy Promotions couldn’t still steer Broner to a world title again, but it would take some very skillful match-making for that to happen.
