Molina to force Adrien Broner to brawl

broner52By Allan Fox: Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) is being brought in as the sacrificial lamb for former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) to slaughter this Saturday night in their 10 round bout on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fight against Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Molina has nothing to lose in this fight, and so he’s going to after Broner immediately to force him into a toe-to-toe battle in the same way that Maidana did with him last December.

The main difference between Molina and Maidana is power. Molina can’t punch, and he’s going to have to use the Paulie Malignaggi approach to beating Broner by throwing a lot of punches in an effort to outwork Broner. Malignaggi was successful with that approach, although he was arguably robbed by the judges.

Humbled: Adrien Broner talks new life outlook since Maidana loss

broner44421(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Raj Parmar: In the weeks and months leading up to his December 2013 clash with Marcos Maidana, Adrien Broner was having the time of his life. He had just become a three division champion at 23 years old after beating Pauli Malignaggi in his welterweight debut and was living his dreams. He dabbled into rapping as he went on a city to city tour reciting his lyrics to hip hop fans and was regularly seen partying with various sorts of women. He even released a short tape of himself with two women engaging in a threesome.

His reckless behavior away from the ring brought him lots of attention and he seemingly enjoyed every bit of it. He headed into the Maidana fight full of confidence and cockiness, both of which were literally knocked out of him in the second round of the fight when Maidana dropped him to the canvas for the first time in his career. Marcos would go on to viciously beat up Broner and put a halt to the suggestions that Broner would be the next big superstar of boxing.

Broner: I’ll be fighting for a world title at 140 real soon

broner444442By Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) says he expects to get a world title shot real soon in the near future, as he’s going to be looking to capture his 4th division world title in his new weight class at 140. Broner isn’t saying which belt he’ll be going after, but it appears that he’s expecting WBA/WBC 140lb champion Danny Garcia to vacate his titles and move up to welterweight.

“I will be trying to make history. I don’t know if it’s been done before. I’ll be a four-time world champion in four division weight classes by the time I’m 24. Once you get the status that I am in boxing, I can go to any weight class right now and fight for a world title. I got the ability to do that. I know I will be fighting for a world title at 140 real soon.”

Broner with a lot to prove against Carlos Molina

broner544By Allan Fox: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) will be putting his reputation on the line next month against Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) in a fight that Broner cannot afford to lose on May 3rd on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana fight card. A loss for Broner in this fight will be a huge blow to his career. At 24, it certainly won’t be over for Broner if he loses to Molina, but it’ll make things very difficult for Golden Boy Promotions to rebuild his career. They’re already trying to rebuild his career by matching him against the 5’5” Molina following Broner’s loss to Marcos Maidana last December.

Broner needs to win in a manner that makes fans forget about his loss to Maidana. This is what this fight is all about. Broner needs to win in such a decisive manner that fans will forget the loss to Maidana, and they’ll start jumping on board the Broner train again.

Adrien Broner talks about Molina fight

broner9991By Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) revealed today in the media conference call that he expects one of the light welterweight titles to open up shortly. Broner didn’t say that he’ll go after the belt, but it seems very likely that he will. The title he’s talking about is the WBC 140lb belt held by WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who said recently that he plans on moving up in weight to the welterweight division. The only way that Garcia doesn’t take that move is if his adviser Al Haymon recommends that he stay at 140.

Broner has a tune-up fight against Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana fight card on May 3rd. It’ll give Broner a chance to be seen on the same card as the guy that just easily beat him last December in Maidana. Broner had talked about wanting to try and avenge the loss, but it looks like he may have changed his mind about the wisdom of attempting that.

Carlos Molina motivated by underdog status against Adrien Broner

khan45By Dan Ambrose: The ring rusty 5’5” Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) isn’t bothered that he’s perceived to be the underdog against Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) next month in their fight on May 3rd, as Molina says he’s motivated by being seen the guy who will be losing when they meet up at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Molina has been resting for the past year since his loss to Amir Khan in December of 2012.

Molina was stopped in the 10th round in that fight, and he’s been waiting for an important fight since that time. What’s surprising is that Golden Boy Promotions picked him out for such a big fight after all that time out of the ring. Normally you don’t see that kind of thing, but it kind of gives you a good indication of how far Broner has slipped for him to be facing a guy coming off of a year and half long layoff.

Broner-Molina & Love-Periban don’t bring much value to Mayweather v Maidana card

broner55555By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions seems to have missed the boat with a major part of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana fight card on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. They’ve added two fighters – Amir Khan and Adrien Broner – in an undercard that is one of the most expensive in the history of the sport due to Khan and Broner’s big names, but they they’ve taking it easy on Broner by letting him fight Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s), an opponent that is almost guaranteed to be knocked out. Khan is facing Luis Collazo on the card, which is a pretty decent fight, but that’s the only good one on the undercard.

Golden Boy also has unbeaten but deeply flawed super middleweight J’Leon Love (17-0, 10 KO’s) facing Marco Antonio Periban( 20-1-1, 13 KO’s) in the fight right before the Broner-Molina bout. Golden Boy could have saved a lot of money if they had shaved Broner off the card altogether or at least insisted he fight someone that brought value to the card. They could have eliminated Broner if he or his manager Al Haymon insisted on the mismatch against little 5’5″ Carlos Molina. Having that fight on the card is a waste of time.

Carlos Molina: I have the power to beat Adrien Broner

khan45By Scott Gilfoid: Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) doesn’t see himself as the sacrificial lamb being brought in to be slaughtered by Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) on May 3rd like a lot of fans see him, Molina actually sees himself as having a good chance of beating Broner. He believes his power, such as it is, will be enough for him to beat Broner. Molina isn’t saying he’ll knock Broner out, but one gets the sense that’s what he’s hoping to do.

This is going to be funny watching the light-hitting Molina going after Broner on May 3rd. Man, if Broner looks horrible against this guy then he’s going to be in a deep hole with his career. If a light hitter like Molina can beat Broner or make him struggle to win, it’s going to be a bad sign for Broner. He’d pretty much have to go back down to the lightweight division if he didn’t want to get beaten up by the best light welterweights in the division like Lucas Matthysse or Danny Garcia. Heck, Molina isn’t even a contender at 140, and that makes it even worse for Broner if this guy beats him or goes life and death with him.

Broner: I had a minor setback [against Maidana], I’ll be back on May 3rd

broner235By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) wants his fans to forget about his loss to Marcos Maidana from last year in December, and focus instead on his upcoming fight against Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) on May 3rd on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Maidana fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Broner would have been better off facing Amir Khan or at least a viable opponent for his next fight instead of Molina, who is one of Khan’s leftovers from 2012. The little 5’5” Molina was halted in the 10th round by Khan after taking a frightful beating, and Molina hasn’t been seen since. For that reason alone, Broner should have told his manager Al Haymon and/or Golden Boy Promotions to find him someone else.
