McDonnell wins again against Kameda(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Bells: Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) bounced back from his loss to Badou Jack with an easy win against long faded former world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) on Sunday afternoon in a fight televised by Premier Boxing Champions on CBS at the American Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA.

Dirrell showed fast hands, but it really is worrying that he couldn’t put Rubio away – his lack of power really is worrying. Rubio was moving up in weight after being dominated by Gennday Golovkin so this fight was truly exceptional matchmaking from Dirrell’s promoters to make him look good.

Dirrell decisions Rubio; McDonnell defeats Kameda by controversial decision

EW5G1481(Photo credit: Lucas Noonan/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: In a sensational performance, former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (28-1-1, 22 KOs) put on a power punching clinic in defeating former two time world title challenger 35-year-old Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1, 51 KOs) by one-sided 10 round unanimous decision on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The final judges’ scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 100-90.

Dirrell looked incredibly talented in teeing off on Rubio with beautiful single power shots to the head. Dirrell did throw some combinations in the fight, but obviously not enough to get the stoppage. That was what was needed for the 30-year-old Dirrell to get a knockout in this fight, because Rubio was able to handle his single pot shots fine. It was when Dirrell threw combinations that Rubio looked troubled.

For the Americans who might be worried about whether they can see this interesting fight, it’s on free television on CBS, starting at 4pm ET/1pm PT. It’s a great fight that promises plenty of action from start to finish. Originally when I saw that the fight was only scheduled for 10 rounds, I thought it was a bad deal, because for an exciting contest like this one, you want to see a full 12 round fight.

Anthony Dirrell takes on Marco Antonio Rubio on September 6th on CBS

dirrell677By Scott Gilfoid: The talented former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) will be looking to get back on the winning track next month on September 6th against former world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) in an important battle for both fighters on premier Boxing Champions on CBS at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Both Dirrell and Rubio are coming off of disappointing losses in their last fights. It was lot worse for Rubio, who was totally smashed to bits in a 2nd round knockout loss to WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last year in October 2014.

Loeffler: Golovkin has become Boxing’s must see attraction

In addition to breaking all attendance records this Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, the acclaimed outdoor Southern California boxing venue, boxing fastest rising star, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN also scored big in the TV ratings. Golovkin-Rubio brings in 1.3 million viewers on HBO, a huge hit!

golovkin444(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: If Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez needed the motivation to fight WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) then all they need do is look at the huge ratings his fight against Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs) generated last Saturday night on HBO Championship Boxing from the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The Golovkin-Rubio fight averaged 1,304 million viewers, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN, which makes it the 2nd most viewed fight of the year. That’s not bad for a fighter who can’t get Canelo and Cotto to fight him.

Lampley: Andre Ward wants Golovkin fight!

Golovkin1G(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Dan Ambrose: HBO commentator Jim Lampley says he was contacted by the lawyer for WBA Super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) who told him that Ward is willing to fight WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) for a fight.

Presumably, Golovkin would have to move up to super middleweight to face Ward at either a catch-weight or at the full weight in order for the fight to happen.
