The key to Johnson beating Froch: Hit him as hard as possible with every punch

Image: The key to Johnson beating Froch: Hit him as hard as possible with every punchBy Scott Gilfoid: In making an in-depth study of WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) and past fights, I’ve noticed that Froch shows his vulnerability when he’s hit hard by fighters loading up with their shots. We saw Froch staggered twice by Andre Dirrell in the past, dropped by Jermain Taylor, hurt by Mikkel Kessler and momentarily hurt by Arthur Abraham. This tells me that Froch is vulnerable when getting smashed to the head.

Johnson’s team sees Froch as too slow to win on June 4th

Image: Johnson's team sees Froch as too slow to win on June 4thBy Scott Gilfoid: The trainer for Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s), Orlando Cuellar, sees WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) as a step down from Chad Dawson, the guy that Johnson fought twice and lost to in close 12 round decisions in 2008 and 2009. Johnson is now facing a much slower and less skilled fighter in Froch on June 4th in their Super Six tournament semifinals bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Froch: I have the game plan to beat Johnson

Image: Froch: I have the game plan to beat JohnsonBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is facing his worst nightmare in pressure fighter Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) next month in their Super Six tournament semifinals bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. For a fighter that struggled under the pressure from Mikkel Kessler in a losing effort a year ago, Johnson is like Kessler X 2. He’s much tougher than Kessler, as Johnson doesn’t let up for a second.

Image: Ward beats Abraham, now awaits Froch-Johnson winnerBy Jason Kim: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) did a number on German based challenger Arthur Abraham (32-3, 26 KO’s) on Saturday night in a fairly one-sided 12 round decision win at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Froch not interested in Cleverly bout at this time, more focused on Johnson and Super Six

Image: Froch not interested in Cleverly bout at this time, more focused on Johnson and Super SixBy William Mackay: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) pretty much put to rest any talk of him facing unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight interim champion Nathan Cleverly (21-0, 10 KO’s) for the time being by pointing out that the 24-year-old Cleverly is still unproven at the world level and that he didn’t exactly shine in his last fight against Nadjib Mohammedi. Cleverly faces WBO light heavyweight champion Jurgen Braehmer on May 21st at the O2 Arena in London. This is going to be a tough fight for Cleverly, one where he’ll prove whether he belongs at the top or not.

Froch vs. Johnson: A loss for Carl will destroy his big Super Six finals dream

Image: Froch vs. Johnson: A loss for Carl will destroy his big Super Six finals dreamBy Scott Gilfoid: My, how things have turned around for Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s). Last time out, Froch was complaining about possibly hanging up the old gloves if he lost his stage 3 Super Six fight to Arthur Abraham in November 2010. Froch won the fight by a landslide 12 round decision, recaptured the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight crown in the process, and got a nice Sky deal for his next fight against 42-year-old Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on June 4th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
