Image: Prediction: Glen Johnson to knock Groves down to size on December 15thBy Scott Gilfoid: The more I think about this the more I see 43-year-old Glen Johnson (51-17-2, 35 KO’s) busting up Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (15-0, 12 KO’s) and giving him his first taste of defeat on December 15th at the ExCel Arena, Dockland, in London, United Kingdom.

Technically, Groves, 24, is still unbeaten but I felt he definitely lost to James DeGale last year in May in Groves’ controversial 12 round majority decision win. It seems like a lot of Groves’ fans felt that he won the fight, whereas fans with no dog in the hunt saw DeGale was the winner.

I didn’t have a favorite in that fight, but I still saw DeGale winning that fight without any problems. But that kind of shows you what Johnson will be up against on December 15th in facing a very popular Groves. Unless Johnson gives Groves a royal whipping, I can’t see Johnson getting a decision.

I see the same kind of outcome with Groves running around the ring, losing most of the exchanges, and then getting the decision. However, I think Johnson is going to cut Groves up with his stabbing jabs, and then batter the bleeding Groves with big power shots. Groves won’t want to run from the 43-year-old Johnson because it’ll make him look bad running from a guy so old.

As such, I expect Groves to stand and trade and ending up staggering around the ring like Kell Brook was in his questionable win over Carson Jones earlier this year. Except this time I doubt that the referee will pick that exact moment to give Johnson a lengthy warning for this or that like the referee did working the Jones-Brook fight. A bloody Groves will be hurt and won’t be able to defend himself against Johnson and will end up getting poleaxed.

Groves isn’t a puncher, although he’s been trying to show power in his last couple of fights. If he fights like that against Johnson, who definitely is a puncher, Groves is going to get knocked cold. I see that happening and the only way it doesn’t is if Groves runs for his life and stinks up the joint.

Can you imagine the sight of Groves running from Johnson like a track star on December 15th? I can. That’s how I see this fight going unless Groves’ ego is so huge that he feels can’t run from the old timer.

The bad thing about Groves picking a guy as old as Johnson to fight is that he can’t win. If Groves tries to actually fight Johnson, Groves is going to get knocked out because Johnson is a real puncher. And if Groves runs it’s going to look bloody awful with Groves running around the ring like a chicken with it’s head cut off.
