HBO wants Gennady Golovkin vs. Martin Murray in the U.S, not in the UK

golovkin888By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like the chances of WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) fighting Britain’s Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) are about zero for November, as HBO wants the Golovkin vs. Murray fight to take place in the United States rather than in the UK, according to Steve Kim.

Steve Kim said on his twitter “I’ve asked reps of GGG, if they would face Murray in the UK. I’m told that HBO prefers he fight in the States in prime time.”

In other words, the Golovkin-Murray fight isn’t big enough for it to take place in the UK. If it were, HBO would definitely televise it just like they televised the recent Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler fight.

Golovkin’s promoter impressed with Curtis Steven’s win over Roman

stevens22By Allan Fox: Middleweight contender Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KO’s) is under consideration for WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next bout in November.

Although Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 isn’t saying that Stevens will be the guy that will be facing Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) in November, he did come away impressed with what he saw from Stevens in his 1st round knockout win over Saul Roman last Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Loeffler said to RingTV “I think Stevens did what he needed to do to put himself in a position for a title fight…I would just say that he had an impressive performance. Golovkin has always said he would fight anyone in the middleweight division, and that would include Stevens.”

Curtis Stevens easy work for GGG

stevens1By Sotoman: Last night, Curtis Steven’s fight was suppose to display why he was a dangerous opponent in the middleweight division and why he was being talked about as a challenger for Gennady Golovkin this fall.  I must admit his one punch knock out of Saul Roman was flashy, but his prospects of pulling the same feat against GGG are very slim, here’s why:

Saul Roman was coming straight forward, with no head movement and clearly had no power in the hands.  GGG will provide both of these against Stevens and it surely will not be a long night for Stevens as GGG will make quick work.

Curtis Stevens was very aggressive.  With the exception of the left hook, he was very wide with his punches and that would clearly leave openings against Golovkin.

“GGG” & “The Jackal”: The 2 most avoided fighters in boxing today

golovkin433By Paul-Jonas Sivertsen: After dominating WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in route to a 12 round unanimous decision last April, it seems like Guillermo Rigondeaux has very few options for his Next fight, even though there are lot`s of good fights possible in and around the super bantamweight division.

WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has the same problem after thrashing Matthew Macklin in 3 rounds, a guy who gave WBC & The Ring Champion Sergio Martinez a tough fight for 11 rounds.

These 2 fighters are each other`s opposites in many ways; Rigondeaux is a skillful boxer who sticks and moves and uses his speed and defense to set up his offense from the outside, while Golovkin is a guy who stalks his opponents and without warning drops punishing combinations, and has 1 punch knockout power in ether hand. But in one way they are very much alike;

Curtis Stevens could face Gennady Golovkin in November

stevens3By Allan Fox: If #6 IBF, #10 WBC, middleweight contender Curtis Stevens (24-3, 17 KO’s) is able to get past his August 3rd opponent Saul Roman (37-9, 31 KO’s) in what will likely be a slugfest, then Stevens could wind up facing WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin next on November 2nd.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is interested in using the 5’7” Stevens as Golovkin’s next challenger, provided that Stevens beats Roman next month at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.

By Dan Ambrose: WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) plans on fighting on November 2nd in New York and then 6 weeks later on December 14th in Monte Carlos, according to Steve Kim. For Golovkin to return so quickly to the ring in December, he’s going to have to blow out his opponent early like he did against his last two opponents Nobuhiro Ishida and Matthew Macklin.

Bika interested in facing Froch, Golovkin or Ward

bika1By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) is interested in facing Carl Froch, Gennady Golovkin or Andre Ward for his next fight. Bika recently captured the vacant WBC 168 lb. title win a win over Marco Antonio Periban last month in beating him by a 12 round majority decision in a fairly close fight.

Froch, the IBF/WBA super middleweight champion, is the guy that Bika wants the most for some reason. Bika told Fightnews “Definitely, Froch is the fight I want…this is the fight that all boxing fans around the world want to see.”

I’m not so sure the boxing world is clamoring for a Bika vs. Froch fight.

De La Hoya wants Golovkin to fight N’Dam to test how good he is

ndam324By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya wants WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO’s) to be tested against former WBO middleweight champion Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam (27-1, 17 KO’s) for some reason.

De La Hoya doesn’t say why he wants Golovkin to face N’Dam. He just threw out there without giving an explanation, such as saying he wants to match Golovkin vs. Golden Boy fighter Peter Quillin.

De La Hoya said on his social media site “I wanna see Golovkin vs. Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and then I’ll see if he’s good or not.”
