“GGG” & “The Jackal”: The 2 most avoided fighters in boxing today

golovkin433By Paul-Jonas Sivertsen: After dominating WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in route to a 12 round unanimous decision last April, it seems like Guillermo Rigondeaux has very few options for his Next fight, even though there are lot`s of good fights possible in and around the super bantamweight division.

WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has the same problem after thrashing Matthew Macklin in 3 rounds, a guy who gave WBC & The Ring Champion Sergio Martinez a tough fight for 11 rounds.

These 2 fighters are each other`s opposites in many ways; Rigondeaux is a skillful boxer who sticks and moves and uses his speed and defense to set up his offense from the outside, while Golovkin is a guy who stalks his opponents and without warning drops punishing combinations, and has 1 punch knockout power in ether hand. Evander Holyfield`s legacy?

His record stands at 44-10-2-1 (29 KO’s); the record stained with many more losses than it should because he fought far beyond his prime. Now it seems like he finally has hanged up the gloves, not having fought since beating Brian Nielsen in Denmark in 2011.

The two main foty awards are the self proclaimed bible of boxing, The Ring Magazine and The Boxing Writer`s association of America.

The front contestants are as of now, Lucas Matthysse and Guillermo Rigondeaux. Matthysse thanks to his stunning 3rd round TKO of IBF Light Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson, and before that Matthysse had a 1st round KO of capable Mike Dallas Jr. The former 2 time Olympic gold medalist and Cuban dissident Guillermo Rigondeaux put on a fantastic performance against then top 5 pound-for-pounder Nonito Donaire to unify the WBA, WBO & Ring magazine super bantamweight titles.
