Muhammad Ali: Did his Vietnam Comments Doom Boxing to Obscurity?

ali335By Tewodore: In today’s world of patriotism ad nauseum. Where is seems no athlete is willing to stand out or against the incredible power of the self proclaimed greatest nation on the planet. There once was a man, a legend- he too claimed to be the greatest albeit the greatest boxer of all time. Somehow in the midst of his career this self proclaimed greatest boxer ran afoul of the self proclaimed greatest nation. The fireworks that ensued would captivate a nation,  and bare its deep divisions for the world to see. Unbelievably it would be the boxer who would claim victory in the encounter but the nation would not be denied its vengeance. It’s embarrassment was self evident its retribution would gut a once great sport, and kill many federal funded programs for boxers around the nation. This is the story of Muhammad Ali vs The United States Government and the repercussions that would reverberate through boxing for generations to come.

Canelo and Mayweather face off(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Tewodore: You see the title, you know what it is! Floyd Mayweather Jr. {44-0, 26 KO’s) is the Hardest Button to Button. In my last few article’s I told you that the Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero fight was a forgone conclusion. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer promised him the fight and he got exactly what he wanted a butt whooping. Oscar De la Hoya has now pinned all of his hopes on one Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s).

As previously stated by this author Canelo  street is enemy territory for Floyd. After the cake walk down  Guerrero alley we come to a real contest or so it would seem, but truth be told, De La Hoya has made a big mistake. He has managed to anger Floyd, which is a bad move.  Here’s why Floyd is the HARDEST BUTTON TO BUTTON!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the Art of Punching

floyd659By Tewodore: You as the reader are probably saying here we go again more rubbish but this article is about the subtle aspect that no one really truly ever mentions about Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO’s) his art of punching.

It hit me like Eureka!  It was always there this guys a monster. Holy crap why would you ever wanna fight that guy unless you are like a Bruce Lee replica or something. Most of us always extoll Mayweather for his defense, his adaptability his this or that but how many ever speak of his ability to cover small distances in 1000th of seconds. His uncanny ability to throw a freakin punch without any flinch! nothing you don’t have a clue.

At age 36, its hard to even see signs of visible slippage in Mayweather’s regimen. Add to that the re-addition of his father to his team who brings a realist approach to what Floyd should be doing at this stage of his career to remain unbeaten. His opponent Guerrero is briming with confidence.

Mayweather: Canelo Street or Guerrero Alley?

floyd33These two decisions lie at the feet of the last known (to casual fans) Pound for Pound great. Floyd Mayweather has two tough choices that can either hurt his career or hurt his career. Canelo and Guerrero are both highly skilled and respected boxers in the boxing community. Either one of these champs would eventually become acceptable to those truly familiar with the sport but this article is focusing on legacy. How will Floyd’s legacy be seen after a confrontation with either of these fighters.

In all honesty Mayweather will always be a victim of his own dominance. We have come to expect something from Floyd that we don’t expect of any other athlete in the world. For him to never lose, and since we expect him to never lose we truly believe he is perfect. Since he is perfect no matter who the opponent he willl never be given his just due. It wasn’t till recently when he came back down to earth and showed that he could be hit and made to bleed that fans applauded his effort. Or was it just Miguel Cotto who poked a hole in Mayweather’s cloak of invincibility?
