golovkin2353By Erik Schmidt: Undefeated middleweight contender Gennady Golovkin (17-0, 14 KO’s) was impressive in taking out Brazilian John Anderson Carvalho (19-4-1, 11 KO’s) in a 2nd round stoppage on Saturday night for the vacant World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental middleweight title at the Nuerburging race track, in Nuerburg, Germany. Golovkin was especially impressive taking out Carvalho, a fighter who had lasted the full 12 rounds in a losing effort against Sebastian Zbik a year earlier in August 2008.

Sturm defeats Gevor, Zbik Decisions Spada, Golovkin Stops Carvalho – Boxing Results

gevor44334By Erik Schmidt: World Boxing Association middleweight champion Felix Sturm (33-1, 14 KO’s) defeated challenger Khoren Gevor (30-4, 16 KO’s) tonight by a close 12-round decision at the Ring Arena, Nürburgring Racetrack, in Nürburg, Germany. The decision, like many of the previous ones that the 30-year-old Sturm has won, was a controversial victory, as it appeared that Gevor did more than enough to get the victory.

Golovkin Obliterates Greenidge

golovkin5By Erik Schmidt: Unbeaten middleweight contender Gennady Golovkin (15-0, 12 KOs) took out American Anthony Greenidge (13-2-1, 5 KOs) in the 5th round tonight at the König Palast, in Krefeld, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Golovkin, 27, landed a hard left to the midsection of Greenidge in the 5th, sending him down in a delayed reaction. Greenidge got to his feet quickly and then shook his head and walked away rather than continue fighting. The bout was then stopped at 0:59 of the 5th round.

Golovkin, 26, a former 2004 Middleweight Olympic Silver Medalist for the Kazakhstani Olympic Team, hurt Mamani with a hard right hand late in the 1st round.
