Broner beats Antonio DeMarco by 8th round stoppage

Image: Broner beats Antonio DeMarco by 8th round stoppageBy Marcus Stewart: Adrien Broner managed to capture the WBC lightweight championship from Antonio DeMarco. The fight was stopped after the corner man through in the towel as DeMarco’s corner believed that their man was in no position to continue.

After the fight Adrien Broner said to HBO that he’d fight anyone and that he didn’t care who. I doubt that’s true somehow. The smaller Broner I can see being dominated by the much more talented Scot which is that of Ricky Burns. He has the better power, better foot movements and all round better boxing ability. He’s beaten some very credible opponents while Broner is still yet to step up to the hype that he’s created for himself.

Broner needs a bigger name than Ricky Burns for his next fight

Image: Broner needs a bigger name than Ricky Burns for his next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: I know there’s already been talk in the past of Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) possibly fighting a unification bout against WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) in the first quarter of 2013, but I think Broner and his promoters at Golden Boy should forget about those small-time plans and look for a MUCH, MUCH bigger name than that.

Broner facing Burns is a fight that won’t resonate with the United States boxing fans and it’s not even worth wasting a valuable fight for Broner. It’s clear that Burns isn’t in Broner’s league, as it was even before Broner destroyed World Boxing Council lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) by an 8th round stoppage last night in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Shaw: Adrien Broner can be the next Mayweather Jr

Image: Shaw: Adrien Broner can be the next Mayweather JrBy Scott Gilfoid: Gary Shaw, the promoter for former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco, was in awe of the performance put on by Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) last Saturday night in giving DeMarco a methodical beating en route to getting an 8th round stoppage. It was a vintage Mayweather-esque type of show by Broner as he electrified the huge crowd with his beautiful pinpoint shots and his airtight Mayweather-like defense.

Shaw said this about Broner as quoted by ESPN writer Dan Rafael: “I think he can be the next Floyd. He’s fast, he has the moves, he has great defense. Obviously, he has punching power. He hurt DeMarco a few times, cut him up. I think Broner is the total package.”

Broner impresses in destroying DeMarco

Image: Broner impresses in destroying DeMarcoBy Gareth Rees: Adrian Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) won his second world title in a second weight class as he destroyed Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) in an 8th round TKO stoppage to win the WBC Lightweight title. Throughout the fight it was obvious that Broner was a different class compared to DeMarco.

The first three rounds were quite tight as Broner was patient sticking behind his jab and defending well as always, with the southpaw DeMarco gaining very occasional success focusing on a body attack. But from the 4th round onwards Broner went up through the gears and started to really batter DeMarco with his pin-point power punching, landing on average 39 power punches per round between rounds 4 and 8.

Where Was Tony? DeMarco No-Shows Title Defense

Image: Where Was Tony? DeMarco No-Shows Title Defenseby Miguel Antonio “Miggs” Barragan: There’s a saying in the boxing world, that once it’s beaten out of you, it’s gone forever, and there’s no getting it back. Well they sure talk a lot, do they not? Oooh, I’m spitting fire. Could it be that be that last Saturday night we saw a boxer that no longer had it?

I talk about Antonio “Tony” DeMarcos’ (28-3-1, 28 ko’s) performance, or lack thereof, against recently cemented star Adrien “The Problem” Broner (25-0, 21 ko’s). And by “had it” I mean that killer instinct we’re used to seeing from Antonio DeMarco. Not only did “The Problem” have no problem disposing his opponent in 8 rounds, winning by TKO when Antonio’s corner threw in the towel, but he also dethroned DeMarco of his WBC Lightweight title, all in one fell swoop.

Broner thrashes DeMarco

Image: Broner thrashes DeMarcoBy Scott Gilfoid: Putting on a beautiful display of power punching, Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) stopped WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) in the 8th round tonight to claim his World Boxing Council 135 pound title at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Fight with a sense of calm, Broner knocked DeMarco down with a picture perfect left hook to the jaw in the 8th. DeMarco’s corner new better than to let the fight continue, so they motioned to the referee that they wanted the fight stopped.

Broner started to really tee off on DeMarco in the 4th and 5th rounds after a feeling out period during the first three rounds. I thought DeMarco fought Broner at a standstill in the first three rounds but only because Broner wasn’t throwing a lot of punches. However, Broner warmed up in the 4th and was thrashing DeMarco with huge power shots to the head and body.

Broner gives DeMarco a terrible beating

Image: Broner gives DeMarco a terrible beatingby Jim Dower: Adrien “The Problem” Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) proved to have too much power, too speed and too much talent in giving WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) a terrible beating on Saturday night reminiscent of the one he received from Edwin Valero.

The fight was halted in the 8th round after Broner tagged DeMarco with a powerful left hook to the head that dropped him at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. DeMarco’s corner had seen enough and they immediately waived the white towel to have the fight stopped.

Broner beats DeMarco; Banks destroys Mitchell

Image: Broner beats DeMarco; Banks destroys MitchellBy Eric Thomas: WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KO’s) took a lot of heavy punishment in losing his title to lightweight newcomer Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) on Saturday night in a mostly one-sided fight on HBO at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. DeMarco started off well but then fell apart under the power and the deadly accuracy of the 23-year-old Broner.

In the 8th, DeMarco took a knee when he was hit with a hard left hand from Broner that had a lot of power on it. By then DeMarco had already had about enough, as his face was cut and badly swollen from Broner’s shots.

DeMarco to show tonight why “the problem” Broner is all bark and no bite

Image: DeMarco to show tonight why “the problem” Broner is all bark and no bite(Photo: Naoki Fakuda) By Marcus Stewart: Reigning WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco faces fringe lightweight contender Adrien Broner. Broner has been hyped up by many American journalists to be the next Floyd Mayweather. How? The fact that he’s fought no one credible and he claims to be one of the best is laughable and outright stupid if you ask me. One journalist in particular states that he’ll be the next pound for pound king. Irrational and ridiculous for someone to state something like that.

Antonio DeMarco is a very talented south paw and without a doubt the best lightweight in the world, bar Ricky Burns of course. DeMarco recently won his last fight by a destructive TKO victory over John Molina whereby it only took one straight left hand to end the bout. That’s the kind of power that DeMarco possess.

Broner vs DeMarco: Will Tony be the first person to beat “Da Problem”?

Image: Broner vs DeMarco: Will Tony be the first person to beat "Da Problem"?(Photo: Naoki Fakuda) By Eamon Mcdonald: Tonight we are going to see the first true test of young Adrien Broner’s career against the tough WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco. Broner has been built up by HBO to be the next superstar in America mainly by fighting unknown, over-matched or naturally smaller guys. Antonio DeMarco on the other hand has been brought along tougher and notably got threw into the deep end against the undefeated knockout artist Edwin Valero and suffered a beating in the process.

DeMarco has noticeably improved since that fight and won the WBC title with a terrific stoppage of Jorge Linares after losing near every round. Broner has his work cut out for him in this fight and won’t have as much of a size advantage as he is used to and he also isn’t as fast as valero or linares so his speed won’t shock DeMarco as much as he would like. This is the fight Broner needs to show why he has been hyped as much as he has. The smart money is on Broner to win and look good doing it but who could ever count out a guy like DeMarco?
