Image: Broner beats Antonio DeMarco by 8th round stoppageBy Marcus Stewart: Adrien Broner managed to capture the WBC lightweight championship from Antonio DeMarco. The fight was stopped after the corner man through in the towel as DeMarco’s corner believed that their man was in no position to continue.

After the fight Adrien Broner said to HBO that he’d fight anyone and that he didn’t care who. I doubt that’s true somehow. The smaller Broner I can see being dominated by the much more talented Scot which is that of Ricky Burns. He has the better power, better foot movements and all round better boxing ability. He’s beaten some very credible opponents while Broner is still yet to step up to the hype that he’s created for himself.

I wasn’t impressed at all by Broner’s victory. Personally I believe he should’ve been deducted at least 2 points for consistent use of the shoulder which is an illegal move and was doing it blatantly to play into his advantage. Chances are if he wasn’t able to use his shoulder in that fight DeMarco would’ve been able to catch him with one of his booming straight lefts. Unfortunately he wasn’t which restricted the harder punching DeMarco in a big way.

Another overhyped American is holding a world title. Nevertheless as soon as Broner meets Burns it wouldn’t surprise me if we a destruction job on Broner. Burns is overall the better boxer out of the two with the better boxing brain. They call Adrien Broner “the problem” well he’s going to have a massive problem when he steps into the ring against the talented Scot. Another cherry picked performance by Broner who is now unbelievably being called a pound for pound contender.
