Pacquiao’s lawyer team of Daniel Petrocelli, David Marosso and his personal counsel Franklin Gacal will be present, according to the Manila Bulletin. Pacquiao filled the lawsuit due to comments that Mayweather has allegedly made in the past about Pacquiao possibly being on performance enhancing drugs.

Pacquiao’s lawyer Petrocelli told the Manila Bulletin “The case against Mayweather is very strong.”

It’s unclear how much money Pacquiao can get ultimately from this case if he wins it. As wealthy as Mayeather is, it might not bring in the kind of money that some people think it will. It’ll be interesting to see if Pacquiao can win and if he does, what kind of financial award he’s given by the court. His lawyers will likely have to prove that his reputation was damaged and he was impacted in some manner.

It was thought that Mayweather might apologize to Pacquiao in order to get out of the lawsuit but that doesn’t appear to be happening. The lawsuit appears to be independent to whether the two fighters get in the ring or not. It will continue to move forward until completion.

Mayweather is fighting WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on May 5th in Las Vegas, whereas Pacquiao is taking on Timothy Bradley on June 9th also in Las Vegas. It’s unlikely that Mayweather will fight Pacquiao later in the year, as WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez is reportedly going to be next for Mayweather in late 2012 or early 2013. This means that we may not see a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather until mid to late 2013, if at all. If the fight goes beyond 2013, it’s going to be much less appealing to boxing fans.
