Image: Roger Mayweather: Pacquiao struggled against Marquez because he was trying not to take that s****By Jason Kim: Roger Mayweather, the uncle and trainer for Floyd Mayweather Jr., has a theory for why WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao looked so awfully poor in his last fight against 38-year-old lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez last November.

Roger thinks that Pacquiao decided to take the fight with Marquez without the “S***,” which Roger obviously means to be performance enhancing drugs.

Roger said this to eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio Program “Pacquiao did struggle last time out, because Pacquiao was trying to not take that s*** that he had in his system. That’s why he was trying to fight Marquez. I was there. He was trying to see if he could fight off that – everybody knows what he’s got in him. I ain’t even got to say it, but he was trying to fight without being on that stuff.”

Both Roger and Floyd Mayweather Jr. seem pretty convinced that Pacquiao has been using in the past and they haven’t been shy about letting people know that in interviews. Roger went on to say that he doesn’t believe that Pacquiao used anything for the Marquez III fight and that’s why he struggled to win that fight.

Roger didn’t really address the question as to how Pacquiao will do against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in their fight on June 9th, other than mentioning why Pacquiao looked bad against Marquez.

As bad as Pacquiao looked against Marquez last November, he still has a ton of advantages going into his fight with Bradley that will make him very hard to beat in that fight. Pacquiao is faster, stronger and a lot more experienced. He’ll have a slight one-half inch height advantage over Bradley and that’s going to be a rare advantage for Pacquiao in those areas, as he’s now always shorter than his opposition. Bradley will come up with some kind of strategy if he wants to win this fight because he doesn’t seem to match up well with Pacquiao in the most important areas – speed and power.
