Image: Roach says Pacquiao can't afford to lose with Mayweather fight still a possibilityBy Dave Lahr: Trainer Freddie Roach made a startling confession recently in an interview about his fighter Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. In an interview at 8countnews.com, Roach said “There’s no room for a loss right now. Mayweather’s still out there. People still want to see that fight. That’s the fight I want to see.” So are we to interpret this as meaning that Pacquiao won’t be put in a position where he can lose by being put in with someone that could actually beat him like WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Juan Manuel Marquez or Andre Berto? Is Pacquiao being fed stiffs until Mayweather appears for the big cash out fight?

Is that why we’re not seeing those fights? If I wanted to pick guys that I felt Pacquiao could beat, I would put him in with people like Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Ricky Hatton and Mosley any day of the week to keep him winning. Pacquiao can beat those guys, but if all he’s doing is being fed easy fights so that he can keep winning just to get to the Mayweather bout for a good cash out bout before retirement, then that’s a lousy deal.

Why isn’t Pacquiao being put in with guys that can actually beat him instead of an old soon to be 40-year-old Mosley or one of the guys he already beat from his Top Rank promotional stable? I want to see him face someone that will have a chance to beat the stuffing out of him for a change instead of the usual mismatches. I want to see some blood.
