Should the WBA take back the heavyweight title from David Haye?

By Allen Hmiel: Titles, boxing glory and championship belts are what all fighters aspire to attain. Has David Haye since dubiously winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title belt from Russian Nikolay Valuev in October of 2009 really acted like a heavyweight champion and lived up to the duties and responsibilities of a champion? Haye has defended the WBA belt against John ” I let Roy Jones beat me” Ruiz hardly a stellar challenge to the title and the awful exhibition bout against fellow Brit Audley “One Jab” Harrison in November. Along with calling out both of the World Champion Klitschko brothers and trying to humiliate them into a fight and aggressively demanding they fight Haye anywhere the fight has never materialized due to Hayes elusive and often comical and embarrassing excuses for the fight not happening. Haye has become a WBA sideshow attraction not a champion

Haye has run an effective shadow game of not boxing and talking alot and basically embarrassing the WBA with his childish antics and questionable motives. Haye is supposed to be a Heavyweight Champion and he should have acted like the the heavyweight champion and fought some credible challenging opponents who would give a competitive fight and make Haye work.

The WBA has lost much respect in having Haye as their champion and boxing suffers for this obvious display of elusive maneuvering by their non fighting WBA champion in calling out the Klitschkos and then not fighting. A boxing champion has a distinct and clear responsibility to fight and defend his title against the best available competition within a reasonable amount of time after winning his belt. Haye has not done this.

Haye has made a mockery out of becoming and defending his WBA Heavyweight title in the past 16 months and the WBA should take appropriate action to strip Haye of his title and open up the Belt for worthwhile deserving fighters who once winning the belt will honor and defend it appropriately.

Enough is enough and Haye has not shown he is a true champion or deserving of any heavyweight title distinction. The WBA needs to take immediate action to regain their prestige as a credible boxing organization that is to be respected.
