Will Pacquiao and Mayweather ever fight?

pac7By Robert Elmore: Manny Pacquiao had the opportunity to leave Top Rank in October of last year, but decided to re-up his contract with the promotional company. I guess Pacquiao figured that he has enough to deal with as a congressman so he decided to let Bob Arum continue to handle his affairs.

But I would like to say that I believe that if Pac left Top Rank the fight between he and Floyd Mayweather could happen. It might not be as juicy as it was 4 years ago, but it still will be a good fight. I can support my argument with hard facts.

Koncz: Pacquiao is willing to fight Mayweather, and we’ll do the blood tests

pac92By Chris Williams: Michael Koncz, the adviser for Manny Pacquiao, is saying that they’re willing to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. and they’ll agree to the blood tests for performance enhancing drugs as long as Mayweather agrees to the same testing.

Koncz told I Film London: “We’re open to that fight, we’ve always wanted that fight. Now it’s in Floyd’s court because Manny himself said on our last press tour when we fought [WBO welterweight champion Timothy] Bradley, that he’s willing to accept less. We’re willing to do the blood tests whenever and any kind of testing as long as Floyd does the same and we’re willing to give him 60% and we’ll take 40%.”

Roach has a new reason why Pacquiao-Mayweather fight can’t happen

roach45By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has added a new reason why he doubts a mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can never happen and that’s because he feels that Mayweather will never agree to fight Pacquiao outside of the United States.

Pacquiao reportedly doesn’t want to fight in the U.S because the government takes close to 40% of his earnings through taxes, so the only way a fight between him and Mayweather could happen is if Mayweather agreed to fight Manny in a country like Mexico or one of the Asian countries. Roach doesn’t see that happening.

Roach told Sport360 “The one thing about Mayweather is he will never fight anywhere but Las Vegas. He made that clear in the past when we were in talks. So I don’t think a fight between him and Manny could ever happen anywhere but the States.”

Hopkins: Pacquiao would be easy pickings for Mayweather now

pac92By Chris Williams: 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins doesn’t see a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. being competitive now if the fight were to be made, not that it ever will be made. Hopkins thinks too much was taken out of the Filipino in his recent 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last month, and he feels that Manny only has one fight left in him and that’s the rematch with Marquez.

Speaking with ESPN, Hopkins said “That type of knockout; that was 10 fights for Pacquiao. The way Pacquiao got hit, he jumped into the punch. He was knocked out before he hit the canvas. It takes a lot out of a fighter when you get that way. I’ll be surprised if he fights more than one time. The way he got knocked out, it’s hard to recover, spiritually, emotionally. Who cares now? [Pacquiao vs. Mayweather bout]. It would be easy pickings for Floyd Mayweather. Now if they fought, Floyd Mayweather would make it even easier than I predicted the first time.”

Pacquiao needs to accept a much lower cut and then face Mayweather

pac6By Babatis Banda: You will not like what I am going to say, but it is as tough as it can get for Manny Pacquiao. Now that Pacquiao is on a losing streak with a massive knock-down in his last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, he needs to pick himself up, swallow his pride and kneel down for a fight with the P4P great. I am not being sarcastic, I am simply talking reality here.

The fact that Pacquiao has clearly shown signs of deterioration, Mayweather is not going to jump for a fight with Pacquiao, after all, the reasons that stood in the path of the fight are still unresolved. For those that thought Floyd would walk in there immediately he notices that Pacquiao is on his weaker days were clearly wrong. Floyd will require that Pacquiao undertakes a full RBT protocol and gets the smaller share of the pie, as is the tradition in boxing.

Arum: A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is not as urgent right now

mayweather500By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he’s not in a hurry to try and put together a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. right now. His main priority is to find out from Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez if they want to get together for a fifth fight in 2013 to fight again rather at some time during the New Year.

Arum said to 8countnews.com “Floyd Mayweather Jr-Manny Pacquiao. That fight can happen down the line. That fights not as urgent but it’s possible. Never say never.”

Manny Pacquiao would still beat Floyd Mayweather

pac6By Mark Calooke: A few weeks have passed since Juan Manuel Marquez spectacularly knocked out Manny Pacquiao after 6 brutal rounds. It was the only definitive victory from their four fights. since then I have noticed that people have mixed opinions. Some think the world’s only ever 8 weight world champion is finished and should retire. His Mother and Wife naturally share that view. Others think this changes nothing. And that Pacquiao is still the world best fighter and got caught by a lucky punch.

I agree with the latter. Many regard Floyd Mayweather as an elite fighter. And I still think Pacquiao beats him. I think Mayweather would dominate the fight with counter punches but would lack the power to hurt the fighting congressman. Eventually Pacquiao will land a shot and Mayweather won’t be able to handle the power.

Pacquiao blew his chance to fight Mayweather

pac65By Robert Elmore: Everyone is still shocked about Manny Pacquiao getting knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez. Shortly after, as I thought would happen, people have come forth saying Floyd Mayweather should have done this and that to make the fight happen.

Let’s get one thing straight. It’s not Mayweather’s fault that Pacquiao took the bout against Marquez. That fight was simply about money (although his fans say he doesn’t fight for money). All Pacquiao had to do was keep winning and his stock would have risen even more. Pacquiao seemed to be content with “leaving it up to his promoter” who has matched up him with Top Rank fighters in his last seven fights. This time he ran into a very determined Marquez in their 4th bout which sent Pacquiao down the pound for pound list and his demand for a 55/45 split straight down the tubes.

Pacquiao-Mayweather last word

Image: Pacquiao-Mayweather last wordBy Tom Drury: This article will be my final say on these two modern day greats. The hope of these fighters exchanging leather is rapidly fading. Boxing fans have lived in hope since 2009 of this fight been made, but we have been denied time and time again due to unrealistic demands, refusals to meet demands and relationships between fighters and promoters.

The main focus of this article is based on neither of these future hall of fame fighters getting the props they deserve. Due to the huge followings these fighters have, and the rivalry between them, it is clear that fans forget what these men have brought to the sport of boxing. They have given there lives to the sport we love.

Legacies: Mayweather or Paquiao – who do you pick?

Image: Legacies: Mayweather or Paquiao - who do you pick?by Tom Drury: These two fighters generate huge amounts of debate on boxing websites and by the public in general. I thought I would write this article based on the fights these two great fighters have been involved in, the quality of the fights, quality of opposition and the legacies they will leave behind once they hang up there gloves. I will start with Manny Pacquiao and his debut fight in the states against Ledwaba, Pacquiao took the fight with only two weeks notice and sent out a message to the boxing world with a blistering performance.

Pacquiao then went onto fight Marco Antonio Barrera in what was the first of two fights with the Mexican. Pacquiao totally outclassed Barrera in both fights. Early 2004, Pacquiao entered the ring against Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez.
