Pacquiao needs to accept a much lower cut and then face Mayweather

pac6By Babatis Banda: You will not like what I am going to say, but it is as tough as it can get for Manny Pacquiao. Now that Pacquiao is on a losing streak with a massive knock-down in his last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, he needs to pick himself up, swallow his pride and kneel down for a fight with the P4P great. I am not being sarcastic, I am simply talking reality here.

The fact that Pacquiao has clearly shown signs of deterioration, Mayweather is not going to jump for a fight with Pacquiao, after all, the reasons that stood in the path of the fight are still unresolved. For those that thought Floyd would walk in there immediately he notices that Pacquiao is on his weaker days were clearly wrong. Floyd will require that Pacquiao undertakes a full RBT protocol and gets the smaller share of the pie, as is the tradition in boxing.

Pacquiao is too far away from a commanding position against Floyd. His ego has been bruised big time and the only way to revive it is not to beat Marquez in a 5th fight, put to put an encore to his career with a bout with Mayweather however late it could be. A win against Marquez will prove nothing. Rather, Pacquiao needs to swallow all pride, tell uncle Arum that only the Mayweather fight will save face even if he loses the fight. A good spirited fight will be enough for a good send-off to a once great warrior. The truth of the matter is that a loss against Mayweather will never be embarrassing for any fighter. It is how spirited they get while they lose that matters.

Let a spade be called a spade, Pacquiao has never been in a position to beat Mayweather, excerpt in the discussions and the hypothetical wishes. Technically, Mayweather has been setting the bar for years and we all now know that Pacquiao is dangerous to the brawlers and those come-forward bullies that use physique as their major weapon. A technically superior fighter will not walk into punches, they don’t go into foolish exchanges the type liked by novices of this sport or the so called toe to toe battles.

Gatti was an example of a toe to toe warrior that loved exchanges and looked good doing so. We all saw what happened when he met Mayweather Jnr, there was no chance of wild exchanges.

If and when it happens, don’t ever say that Mayweather waited for Pacquiao to get wasted. Pacquiao and Arum should carry the full weight of the blame on their shoulders because they felt they could walk away, take their own route and still become big.
