Pacquiao vs. Mayweather – A 50/50 fight or a landslide?

Image: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather - A 50/50 fight or a landslide?By Dami Ademidun: Understanding boxing and how styles make fights, one could come to the realization that despite the arguments for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao having an equal chance of having their hand raised at the end of a fight between one another, that there may have always been a high chance that a fight between these two men may not be and may never have been a competitive fight if they ever got into the ring, even in 2010.

In regards to the fight of this century as the people of now would call it, this writer believes there has always been a high possibility that this fight would underwhelm once both fighters were under the lights. This in particular would be the case because one of the fighters would likely expose the other in grand fashion. The fight would not be back and forth in terms of who is winning on the cards and likely this is something both fighters know, but cannot predict. It is for this reason above the plethora of others that have accumulated through the years, that these fighters continually refuse to get into the ring with one another while continuing to throw up smokescreens as diversions to delay the fight.

Mayweather Jr. lambasted Pacquiao for the 55-45 purse split, clearly, Floyd doesn’t want the fight

Image: Mayweather Jr. lambasted Pacquiao for the 55-45 purse split, clearly, Floyd doesn’t want the fightBy Juan dela Cruz: In an article at Fighthype.com last October 31, 2012, Floyd Mayweather Jr. lambasted Manny Pacquiao for offering him 55-45 purse split with the bigger slice for Mayweather Jr. Floyd said Manny is on the decline and that he has a boss and does not make his own decisions.

Aside from that, Floyd insisted that Manny’s numbers are way below than him (referring to ppvs) and that Manny cannot dictate the terms of the fight nor make such offers. And again, Floyd was saying that his name cropped up during Manny’s interview because they just want to sell the fight (against Juan Manuel Marquez) using his name.

Roach thinks the shelf life for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will expire if it’s not made by 2013.

De La Hoya: Mayweather won’t fight Pacquiao with Arum involved

Image: De La Hoya: Mayweather won't fight Pacquiao with Arum involvedBy Chris Williams: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not fight Manny Pacquiao if Bob Arum of Top Rank has any involvement with the fight. It’s not coming from De La Hoya, but rather from what what told to him by Mayweather.

Speaking with esnewsreport.com, De La Hoya said “This is coming from Mayweather. If Bob Arum is involved with Manny Pacquiao, then Mayweather doesn’t want to fight him. That’s the bottom line.”

Well that explains the reason failed negotiations earlier this year, if you want to call them negotiations.

Floyd Sr: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is a mismatch

Image: Floyd Sr: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is a mismatchBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Sr. still sees a potential fight between his son boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao as a sick mismatch if the fight ever happens because of Floyd Jr’s skill and size advantage over the Filipino. Mayweather Sr. just doesn’t see it a competitive fight whatsoever, pointing out how easily Floyd Jr. defeated former World Boxing Organization champion Juan Manuel Marquez while Pacquiao has won two controversial decisions against him.

Floyd Sr. said to Fighthype.com “I won’t ever change my mind on that. That’s a mismatch…if they know anything about boxing, they know that’s a mismatch.”

Floyd Mayweather will never fight Manny Pacquiao

Image: Floyd Mayweather will never fight Manny PacquiaoBy Mark Calooke: Boxing is always looked upon as being defined by era’s. When people look back on this era they will say it has been dominated by Floyd Mayweather with his unbeaten record, and Manny Pacquiao the fighter of the decade. It’s likely they will also mention the failure in them fighting each other. Mayweather has become ever good at thinking up reasons and passing the blame. But whenever he does the blame is swiftly passed back.

First Mayweather stated that he wanted drugs tests, to which Pacquiao refused. Eventually Pacquiao said he will take any test. Then Mayweather blamed money, Pacquiao soon made a number of generous offers. Once that hurdle was out of the way Mayweather claimed he wouldn’t fight a man that was suing him. Pacquiao dropped the case and settled out of court. Now Mayweather seems to have disappeared. I’m sure Mayweather will soon come back into the public view with a new reason.

Weeks sees Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight happening eventually

Image: Weeks sees Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight happening eventuallyBy Chris Williams: Highly respected referee Tony Weeks sees a mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. still taking place at some point, for what it’s worth.

In an interview at the Manila Standard, Weeks said “I’m sure things will work itself out and the fight will happen. It’s just a matter of waiting and seeing and let the people come together and get it done.”

That sounds good but I don’t know how good the chances are for this fight to get put together given the differences between the two fighters for what they’re asking for from the fight and due to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum. He may say he’s interested in putting Pacquiao in with Mayweather, but then he does things that makes you believe he’s setting up obstacles to prevent the fight from taking place.

Why is testing for illegal substances no longer an issue for Manny Pacquiao?

Image: Why is testing for illegal substances no longer an issue for Manny Pacquiao?By Babatis Banda: For all we can still remember, the initial stumbling block for a fight with Floyd Mayweather junior was a complete refusal to take any form of Olympic style Random Blood Testing for the fight. At that time, the Mayweathers had a strong suspicion that Pacquiao could have been taking banned substances. It was not difficult to see why.

Pacquiao was blazing through bigger guys and mincing them too. It was also evident that Pacquiao was taking in too much punishment, but it seemed not to affect him. Remember the lump that Cotto put on Manny’s ear? It was the size of a pear, yet Pacquiao proceeded to sing at a gig that evening.

Pacquiao may not have the bargaining power at this point in time

Image: Pacquiao may not have the bargaining power at this point in timeBy Babatis Banda: While I do appreciate that somebody has to budge for the fight to get made, I am very skeptical with people suggesting that this is enough from Manny Pacquiao. I am also cognizant of the fact that Pacquiao was simply responding to a question and that this may not have been officially communicated to the Floyd Mayweather camp. You have to realize that at this point in time, Pacquiao’ s position is a lot weaker than it was a few years back.

Pacquiao has the right to mention figures, but ultimately these have to be agreed to by the Mayweather team, they are in the driving seat. It is only logical that Pacquiao would accept a lesser cut, I am sure that he is fully aware that at this moment in time, Floyd would never give him a 50/50 cut.

Koncz saying Pacquiao-Mayweather winner gets 55% and loser 45%

Image: Koncz saying Pacquiao-Mayweather winner gets 55% and loser 45%By Chris Williams: Yesterday, Manny Pacquiao said in an interview with ESPN that he’d be willing to take a 45/55 deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr. just to make the fight happen. This sounded a lot more reasonable than the 50-50 request that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum had been asking for from Mayweather before there would be a fight between him and Pacquiao.

However, seemed to take a tiny step forward yesterday by offering to let Mayweather take a slightly bigger chunk of the financial pie. But Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz is now saying something completely different than Pacquiao. According to the LA Times, Koncz apparently tried clarify Pacquiao’s comments by saying that the winner of a proposed Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would get 55%, while the loser would get 45%.
