People just want Floyd to lose

floyd3467By Robert Elmore: I just come to the conclusion that people just want to see Floyd Mayweather lose. There was no need to create a dialog before the article. Every I turn I see articles about him ducking this fighter and that fighter. When he does fight them and beats them handily, there is always an excuse.

When he fought the young Victor Ortiz, people said he was inexperienced. When he fought Marquez, it was he fought a blown up light weight. But this is the same bloated light weight that just flattened Manny Pacquiao like a pancake.

Mayweather Jnr vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th

guerrero123By  Chris Bax: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) has come in for a lot of criticism for taking on WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) instead of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) on may 4th, 2013. This criticism I believe is pretty unfair.

Robert Guerrero has stepped up and beaten two credible welterweights in Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto in the last year and his last performance against Berto was probably the best off his career. Saul Alvarez in his last fight beat up a beefed up light welterweight in Josesito Lopez, and the fight before that beat up a well past his prime, old aging 40-year-old Shane Mosley in a 12 round unanimous decision.

Mayweather makes perfect choice in Guerrero

may222By Eric Thomas: You’ve got to respect the choice that Floyd Mayweather made in selecting Robert Guerrero to fight on May 4th next year. This was the perfect opponent for the date because Guerrero is Mexican and May 4th is Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday. To be sure, Mayweather could have selected the more popular Mexican fighter WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and the fight would be a bigger fight and would bring in more money on pay per view.

Canelo, however, still isn’t as popular as he’s going to be in a couple of fights, and Mayweather is better off waiting until Canelo has made a little more of a public name for himself in the U.S markets before he faces him next year or possibly the year after that.

mayweather3423By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) reportedly has decided to take the less popular and arguably much more safer fight against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The choice for Mayweather was to fight the light hitting Guerrero or the much harder punching and heavier WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Mayweather, being a businessman, opted for the easier fight in terms of his health.

Alvarez would have been a much harder for the soon to be 36-year-old Mayweather because he would have had to take a lot more punishment to win the fight. If you thought the punishment that Mayweather absorbed against Miguel Cotto was something, then try to imagine Mayweather taking twice as much punishment.

mayweather45By Chris Williams: Well, it looks like WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will be facing WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Boxingtalk.com.

Canelo could end up on the undercard as the co-main event in this pay per view broadcast on HBO. It’s possible that the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero and Alvarez-TBA fights will face each other in September when Mayweather is scheduled to be back in the ring again.

Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe revealed that Mayweather Jr. will be fighting on May 4th next on Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday.

Mayweather will so be fighting in September as well, but the May 4th fight makes it pretty obvious that he plans on fighting a Mexican fighter and it’s going to be Guerrero that gets that fight. Saul Alvarez, the WBC 154 pound champion, is supposedly up for consideration for Mayweather, but he’s not going to get it. Mayweather Jr. likely won’t be fighting anymore 154 pound fighters after his hard fight against Miguel Cotto last May.
