Robert Guerrero: I haven’t reached a deal with Mayweather yet

guerrero41By Allan Fox: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) says he hasn’t nailed down a deal with unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) for May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, but he’s hoping the fight can get made.

Guerrero said on his twitter “To all the fans, no deal has been reached to fight Mayweather but I’m hoping I do get that opportunity to shock the world! “

Guerrero is considered to be the guy that Mayweather Jr. will be facing on May 4th, as WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the other fighter that Mayweather was rumored to be considering for the fight, is scheduled to be fighting on the undercard against an opponent still to be determined.

Not much ‘money’ Mayweather

mayweather9u340934903490By Mark Calooke: Floyd ‘money’ Mayweather is the undisputed highest paid athlete in the world. but it seems that his nickname is a little misleading. He spends the money just as quick as he earns it according to Bleacherreport.com. This has left Mayweather in a position where he isn’t as wealthy as he would like people to think.

Mayweather regularly posts pictures on twitter of bets far exceeding $100.000 but doesn’t always win. The fall out between Floyd Mayweather and 50 cent has been well documented but the reason was largely unknown. But recently 50 cent used twitter to explain all. they planned on going into the promotional business together and had managed to sign a string of big names. But Mayweather wouldn’t, or couldn’t, come up with his end of the money. 50 cent said Floyd had got himself into the rut of “fight, get the money, spend the money, fight”

Of course the idea of long term wealth is to build money up, and ideally Mayweather would be smart enough with his money to be able to retire and remain rich for life. This is unlikely to happen when you consider that Floyd has failed to invest much money in anything successful.

People just want Floyd to lose

floyd3467By Robert Elmore: I just come to the conclusion that people just want to see Floyd Mayweather lose. There was no need to create a dialog before the article. Every I turn I see articles about him ducking this fighter and that fighter. When he does fight them and beats them handily, there is always an excuse.

When he fought the young Victor Ortiz, people said he was inexperienced. When he fought Marquez, it was he fought a blown up light weight. But this is the same bloated light weight that just flattened Manny Pacquiao like a pancake.

Mayweather Jnr vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th

guerrero123By  Chris Bax: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) has come in for a lot of criticism for taking on WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) instead of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) on may 4th, 2013. This criticism I believe is pretty unfair.

Robert Guerrero has stepped up and beaten two credible welterweights in Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto in the last year and his last performance against Berto was probably the best off his career. Saul Alvarez in his last fight beat up a beefed up light welterweight in Josesito Lopez, and the fight before that beat up a well past his prime, old aging 40-year-old Shane Mosley in a 12 round unanimous decision.

Mayweather makes perfect choice in Guerrero

may222By Eric Thomas: You’ve got to respect the choice that Floyd Mayweather made in selecting Robert Guerrero to fight on May 4th next year. This was the perfect opponent for the date because Guerrero is Mexican and May 4th is Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday. To be sure, Mayweather could have selected the more popular Mexican fighter WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and the fight would be a bigger fight and would bring in more money on pay per view.

Canelo, however, still isn’t as popular as he’s going to be in a couple of fights, and Mayweather is better off waiting until Canelo has made a little more of a public name for himself in the U.S markets before he faces him next year or possibly the year after that.

Mayweather-Guerrero on 5/4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada

mayweather3423By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) reportedly has decided to take the less popular and arguably much more safer fight against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The choice for Mayweather was to fight the light hitting Guerrero or the much harder punching and heavier WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and Mayweather, being a businessman, opted for the easier fight in terms of his health.

Alvarez would have been a much harder for the soon to be 36-year-old Mayweather because he would have had to take a lot more punishment to win the fight. If you thought the punishment that Mayweather absorbed against Miguel Cotto was something, then try to imagine Mayweather taking twice as much punishment.

mayweather45By Chris Williams: Well, it looks like WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will be facing WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Boxingtalk.com.

Canelo could end up on the undercard as the co-main event in this pay per view broadcast on HBO. It’s possible that the winner of the Mayweather-Guerrero and Alvarez-TBA fights will face each other in September when Mayweather is scheduled to be back in the ring again.

Robert Guerrero not ready for Floyd Mayweather Jr

Image: Robert Guerrero not ready for Floyd Mayweather JrBy Allan Fox: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero appears to be on the verge of getting a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. that he’s been craving for ages now. Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe revealed that Mayweather Jr. will be fighting on May 4th next on Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday.

Mayweather will so be fighting in September as well, but the May 4th fight makes it pretty obvious that he plans on fighting a Mexican fighter and it’s going to be Guerrero that gets that fight. Saul Alvarez, the WBC 154 pound champion, is supposedly up for consideration for Mayweather, but he’s not going to get it. Mayweather Jr. likely won’t be fighting anymore 154 pound fighters after his hard fight against Miguel Cotto last May.

Schaefer working on Guerrero-Mayweather fight

Image: Schaefer working on Guerrero-Mayweather fightBy Dan Ambrose: LA Times writer Lance Pugmire is reporting that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is working on trying to put together a fight between WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and the regular WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Purmire said on his twitter “Richard Schaefer said he has initiated talks with Floyd Mayweather’s reps for a Robert Guerrero fight.”

This is great news because it would be a pity to see the World Boxing Council have to strip Mayweather of his WBC title for failing to defend it against Guerrero after they ordered the fight.

Robert Guerrero: I’ll shock the world if I can get Mayweather Jr in the ring

Image: Robert Guerrero: I'll shock the world if I can get Mayweather Jr in the ringBy Dan Ambrose: WBC welterweight interim champion Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KO’s) sounds almost desperate when he speaks about his desire to get unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring so that he can try and prove himself against the 35-year-old mega star. Guerrero feels he’s got what it takes to defeat Mayweather despite Guerrero struggling to beat an arguably lesser fighter in Selcuk Adyin in his last fight last month.
