Mayweather: Me fighting Guerrero is just a rumor; not sure who I’ll fight

floyd545By Chris Williams: Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. cleared up some confusion about his May 4th fight date by saying he’s still not sure who he’ll be facing next for that date.

Mayweather Jr. said on his twitter “As of right now I don’t know who I’m fighting on May 4th. Me fighting Roberto Guerrero is just a rumor.”

Boxing fans have been assuming that Floyd will be fighting Guerrero for some reason, perhaps mostly because he’s Mayweather’s mandatory, he’s Mexican, and Mayweather Jr. has chosen to fight on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, May 4th awaits

mayweather322By Tom Drury: Floyd Mayweather is back in the ring on May 4th, and it’s looking like Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will be his challenger. Many fans have criticized this choice of opponent for Mayweather (nothing new there). Guerrero will be entering the ring full of confidence coming off the back of two good wins against genuine welterweight fighters Selcuk Aydin, ranked (3) by the WBC and Andre Berto, ranked (12).

Mayweather, as I’ve detailed in previous articles, has a resume made up with undefeated fighters, (1) ranked fighters and contenders, multiple division world champions and knockout artists. 43-0 and again entering the ring against a double world champion in the form of Guerrero. Guerrero is a tough fight for Mayweather; his style is relentless sometimes dirty, as seen in the Berto fight. Guerrero likes to rough up his opponents and force a fight on the inside.

Mayweather’s return to the ring, Austin Trout, Malignaggi-Mosley & more!

floyd56By Tom Drury: A lot has happened during the last six weeks in boxing, as the last year has been wound up and we enter the new one. I wanted to share my opinion on the main topics currently going on in the sport, from Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent to Juan Manuel Marquez and his magic trick. I am going to share my thoughts on several topics in bullet point style, enjoy it or hate it; here are my thoughts on the current affairs of boxing.

1. Austin Trout – two names have been thrown about for Mayweather’s return to the ring on May 4: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, while Trout has been totally dismissed. Guerrero has beaten Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto at welterweight while Canelo has defeated Josesito Lopez and Shane Mosley up at junior-middleweight in his last two fights. Neither fight is terrible nor I would like to see both. However, a fight with Mayweather would be a quantum leap in regards to level of opposition for Alvarez.

Floyd Mayweather Jr, Undisputed truth!

floyd45342By Tom Drury: The debate goes on. I have written numerous articles on Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently, articles based on his boxing resume, defining fights, personality and the great skills he possesses. I have had some fantastic feedback on these articles by boxing fans (not necessarily Mayweather fans) and proof due to the number of comments posted how we as fans like nothing more than a debate on Mayweather’s illustrious career.

I am going to begin by giving you a little information on myself, hoping to prove i am an unbiased writer. I boxed as an amateur for five years building a resume of 63-13. I thought about turning pro but quite frankly knew I wasn’t ever going to be good enough to make those big paydays or even live a comfortable life on the back of fighting wages. I have boxed since the age of ten, and ever since I have been a boxing fanatic following every part of the sport, going to amateur shows on a regular basis also pro fights. My favourite all time boxer is Sugar Ray Robinson.

Why is Robert Guerrero getting a shot at Mayweather before more talented and deserving boxers?

guerrero342By Omar Torres: Manny Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez, Saul Alvarez, Juan Manuel Marquez, hell even Tim Bradley are fighters that are more deserving to get a shot at the P4P king Floyd Mayweather Jr.(43-0) Than Robert Guerrero (35-1-1). Yes, Robert Guerrero beat Andre Berto (31-1-1) & Selcuk Aydin (30-1-1), but other than that Robert has no other elite fighters under his belt.

Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2) should’ve got a shot years ago but we all know how that story goes, with both sides pointing fingers at each other on why the match hasn’t happened, but it should’ve happened because Pacquiao was definitely deserving of the fight as he was 1st and 2nd P4P for a while. Sergio Martinez (50-2-2) has been calling out Mayweather for a while now and doesn’t get acknowledged by ‘money May’ at all until recently mentioning that he would like to possibly fight him, but that is just words that mean nothing right now. Sergio is by far one of the most dangerous opponents that can take Floyd’s “0” away.

Floyd Mayweather’s decline; Guerrero is the perfect fight.

guerrero11By Rusty Nate: I know the title alone will probably spawn a long line of posters to start blasting away with comments claiming Floyd is great and won’t ever be beaten by anyone but lets be honest when we discuss it.

Floyd has been on the slide. Weather you like it or not the legendary fighter is pushing 36 years of age. In a weight class where speed, reflexes and stamina play a massive roll in who’s wins and who loses, Floyd is getting to that stage where he is going to find himself unable to compete on a winning basis with the best of the sport.

Calling ‘The Ghost’ a brawler or dirty is an unfit description. The ‘The Ghost’ is a technician

guerrero1234By Hector Gonzalez: I see many fans dismissing ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero claiming that he’s a brawler and that he fights dirty. What these comments about Robert Guerrero lead me to believe is that many of these “boxing fans” are unfamiliar with Robert Guerrero’s career and most likely have only seen him fight against Andre Berto, what I would challenge these fans commenting is to observe Guerrero’s career and understand why he is a full technical fighter who quickly adapts in the ring and fights with multidimensional skills.

First and foremost people have to take a close look at the Berto fight and understand what the difference between ‘making it a dirty fight’ vs ‘fighting dirty ’. A dirty fight is a toe-to- toe fight that includes constant pressure, these fights are referred to as dirty fights because usually the fighters are bloodied, sweaty, and the fights become gruesome and sometimes using unconventional techniques.

Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr. will beat Guerrero; he’s too smart for him

mayweather sr2By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes his son Floyd Jr. will be far too intelligent for WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero (31-1-1, 19 KO’s) to figure out in their fight on May 4th. Floyd Sr. says he sees his fighting Guerrero on this date, and he doesn’t see how he can lose.

Floyd Sr. said to 8countnews.com “I think Floyd wins. Little Floyd is too smart for him. Anyway you want to look at it, Floyd is too smart for him. Andre Berto got beat up by Guerrero because he didn’t know what he was doing. Berto should have fought like he fights, not like how Floyd fights. He needs to fight his game, not Floyd’s.”

Guerrero: I’ve got what it takes to beat Mayweather; people will be in shock

guerrero45By Chris Williams: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero says he’s going to prove boxing fans wrong when he faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 4th on HBO at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero points out that few fans believed that he could move up to welterweight and beat the likes of Andre Berto and Selcuk Aydin, and now many of these same fans don’t see Guerrero capable of beating Mayweather Jr.

Guerrero said to eastsideboxing.com “People will find out the truth very soon…I’m a natural southpaw who can adapt to different styles in the ring. I’m also more athletic than most realize. It’s all there to defeat Floyd…everyone will be in shock…I’m going to tell everyone ‘I told you so.’”

Will Mayweather Jr. lose for the first time in 2013

floyd45By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has had an incredible boxing career with world titles won in five weight classes, and he’s won the titles without catchweights to ease the way. Mayweather has arguably been the best fighter in boxing for the past 10 years without question, but he’s starting to show signs of fading as a fighter. His legs are gone and he’s become more stationary.

He’s not as fast as once was in terms of hand speed, and he’s getting hit much more than he ever did before. Mayweather will be turning 36 in February, and that’s an age where most fighters that rely on speed start to come apart and lose. Mayweather hasn’t helped himself by sitting out of boxing for two years from 2007 to 2009, and then fighting only once per year from 2009 to 2012.
