Khan gives his reasons why Mayweather should fight him

khan52By Scott Gilfoid: In a sign of what appears to be growing desperation from Amir Khan in his attempts to get a Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega-fight, Khan came up with a list of reasons why Mayweather needs to fight him on May 3rd instead of someone else. Among the reasons why Mayweather should fight him instead of another opponent, Khan mentioned that he has almost as many twitter followers as Floyd, and that he’s well known in India, Pakistan, Dubai and England.

I hate to be the one to break this to Khan but the fight, if Khan gets picked out by Floyd, will be staged in the United States and not the places that he mentioned where he’s popular. This means that the fans in the other areas of the world won’t be able to pump up the U.S PPV totals unless they fly over to the U.S and order the fight on Showtime PPV. Somehow, I don’t see that happening, which is why Khan’s argument is totally irrelevant.

Khan-Mayweather a done deal, says Mannix

khan43By Scott Gilfoid: Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix is reporting that the much talked about fight between Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) is basically a done deal, and that it should be announced by next week. That fight, of course, will be taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 3rd, the Cinco de Mayo holiday weekend.

A good fight, this is not. This is more like a good mismatch, and I think it’s going to do really poorly until Khan go show more personality to overcome his recent lack of success in the ring. Golden Boy Promotions won’t be able to sell this mismatch to the U.S public unless Khan can go on a medial blitz to where he has the casual boxing fans believing that he’ll be able to give Mayweather a good fight. But just based on how Khan has looked in his last four fights, he stands no chance against Mayweather and a lot of fans could feel upset at how one-sided this fight will be.

McCrory: Khan has the style to beat Mayweather

mayweather434by Scott Gilfoid: Sky Sports analyst Glenn McCrory believes that Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) has the speed and the style to give Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) his first defeat of his career on May 3rd when/if this fight is put together. McCrory already said that Khan has him believing that he’ll be Mayweather’s next opponent, but he also has him under the impression that he’s going to beat the 36-year-old Mayweather in this fight.

“He’s [Khan] the one man who’s faster than Mayweather,” McCrory said to Sky Sports. “Mayweather isn’t the kind of hunt-you-down lethal finisher either, so Khan definitely has a chance. He will give him problems because he’s got speed. The other thing is that Khan’s usual weakness of getting hit won’t be as much of a problem because Mayweather is more of a counter-puncher. He could be the busier man and maybe nick a decision. He’s got the style to do it.”

Khan says he’ll fight Mayweather only at 147

khan43By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) says he’ll only agree to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) at 147 lbs., and not at a catch-weight over that weight. Mayweather hasn’t asked Khan for a catch-weight, so it’s hard to understand what Khan is talking about. Heck, Khan still doesn’t have the fight, and he’s already talking himself out of it by drawing a line in the sand.

“I will not be dictated to,” Khan said to the Daily Star. “With me it will be 147 lbs and that is it. I will be moving up a weight and I will not be killing myself to make it. He is always fighting guys who are slow, but I think it is time he moves up a notch and takes on someone quick, exciting and as big as him.”

Hatton: Khan could give Mayweather problems with his speed

hatton64By Scott Gilfoid: Former Floyd Mayweather Jr. victim Ricky Hatton believes that Amir Khan actually has a decent chance of beating Mayweather Jr. in their proposed fight on May 3rd next year in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although the fight hasn’t been made yet, it’s likely the one that Mayweather will choose to make due to him having run out of interesting opponents to fight.

What’s interesting here is that Hatton is bucking the conventional wisdom about Khan being little more than a sacrificial lamb being brought out for the slaughter on May 3rd. Next to no one sees Khan as being anything more than a fodder opponent for Mayweather, yet Hatton is giving Khan a chance of winning.

Khan vs. Mayweather: A bloody good fight

may664By Nas Jawaid: There’s certainly a difference of opinion about the Amir Khan vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. Some fans believe Khan won’t stand a chance at all, some believe he doesn’t deserve a chance, and the rest believe in Amir Khan. I guess it’s easy to say there’s’ definitely a split decision. One thing which every boxing fan would agree on is that Khan brings excitement, not only because of his fast hands and combination punching, but also because of his suspect chin. We never know what’s going to happen in a Khan fight.

When the rumors began spreading about Floyd and Khan mixing it up, I for one thought immediately easy money for Floyd, but now I don’t think that to be the case. Khan’s long reach and blazing fast hands may cause Floyd some trouble (I believe Floyd will adapt and knock Khan out) and it will be great to see the boxing technician adapt to a younger faster fighter. Plus, we all know styles make fights and Khan does have that winning round style long reach combination punching so it would be interesting to say the least.

Schaefer: Khan is faster than Mayweather

khan3334By Allan Fox: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is hoping he can put together a fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Schaefer believes that Khan’s large British fan base will help make the fight a huge success by them flying over from the UK to see the fight in the U.S. Interestingly enough, Schaefer doesn’t see the fight as a mismatch like most people view the Mayweather-Khan fight. Schaefer thinks that with Khan’s hand speed that he could give Mayweather a lot of problems. Schaefer rates Khan’s hand speed as better than Mayweather’s.

Schaefer said to RingTV “From a speed point of view, Mayweather is very, very fast and has very fast hands, but I am going to say that Amir Khan’s hands and hand-speed is faster than Floyd Mayweather’s, and that his footwork is exceptional as well…In the speed category, he is faster than Floyd Mayweather. We’ll see if that fight can be done. It’s a fascinating match-up.”

How can Khan beat Mayweather?

khan#1By Albert Choi: With the recent talk about Amir Khan (28-3-0, 19 KO’s) being the favorite to land the fight against pound for pound king, Floyd “Money” Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs). I found it quite confusing how Khan has even been in the discussion for the fight based on what he has done in the past year or so. Let me explain.

Being a 17-year-old child from Bolton, England, Amir Khan was the only fighter who represented the U.K. in boxing at the 2004 Athens Games, where he impressively won a silver medal. After his Olympic triumph, Amir Khan was groomed to be boxing’s next superstar. Charismatic, skillful, and Muslim, Khan was marketed into the next big thing in boxing. Winning his first 18 fights without much trouble, Khan was tested at certain times; specifically in a bout against Willie Limond.

Amir Khan doesn’t belong in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

khan-fouling1By Lavon Shepard: Currently Amir Khan (28-3 19KOs ) is lobbying for a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. This matchup is ridiculous for two reasons. For one Amir Khan is not in the same league as Mayweather and should start beating B-level fighters before trying challenge the big dogs in boxing. Second, there are more deserving opponents still out there for Floyd to face that will create fan excitement.

Everyone knows about the squabbling between top rank and golden boy and Mayweather and Arum, so I’ll leave Top Rank fighters off the list. People would love to see Mayweather face Danny Garcia. Garcia, a guy who knocked Khan out and was dominant in his win against Lucas Matthysse is a no-brainer over Khan. Its going to take two or three guys to beat Mayweather the way he’s fighting but Garcia would at least make it intriguing.

Khan still not sure if he’ll get Mayweather fight

khan#3By Scott Gilfoid: Former two division world champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) could have fought two more times this year and gotten good paydays. But instead he’s remained inactive since his controversial life and death win over Julio Diaz last April in London. Khan is waiting to find out if he’ll get the payday fight of his life against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd, and right now Khan is still not even sure if his promoters at Golden Boy will be able to produce that fight for him. As such, Khan could end up with two missed paydays and pretty much a year of his career wasted on him playing it safe waiting for the Mayweather fight.

Khan told Fox Sports 1 “We’re still waiting on a few things. We were looking at a fight against Alexander. That fell through. There’s a lot of talk about the Mayweather fight happening, but at the moment I’ve left it up to my team and Golden Boy. I would love the fight. It would be an amazing fight. It’s a fight I’ve always wanted.”
