Why Mayweather vs. Khan will happen on May 3rd

khan4343By Saqib Khan: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has beaten Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Robert Guerrero in his last two fights, and both of which were one-sided affairs that were largely boring to watch for fans. These guys were highly rated, yet the fights still ended up with Mayweather easily winning them. That’s where the argument for Amir Khan comes in. Win or lose, Amir always comes to fight, he’s very exciting and has a massive hard throwing variety of combinations. He also possesses a suspect chin, so basically anything can happen.

At least we can see Mayweather knocking out an opponent or Mayweather on the back foot taking punishment for a few round against Khan before he turns it around and tops him.

Khan will shock the world by beating Mayweather, says Hunter

khan111 (2)By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan will need to be at his first best for him to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3rd, says Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter. It’s still unknown if Khan will even get the fight against Floyd, but Hunter is talking as if it’s going to happen – or maybe he’s talking so that he hopes it will create enough interest and pressure to convince Mayweather that Khan is the way to go for his next fight. Either way, Hunter seems to be talking a lot in the media about Khan’s chances of beating Mayweather.

Let’s look at this in real terms. Khan’s career is basically limping a long at this point with him having lost 2 out of his last 4 fights, and barely escaping a third defeat in getting a controversial win over Julio Diaz in his last fight.

Where does Khan go if he doesn’t get the Mayweather dream bout?

khan4323233By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) has been yapping about wanting a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. for more than 2 years now, and it looks like he might actually get the fight next on May 3rd if Mayweather Jr. doesn’t opt to take the bigger money fight against Marcos Maidana. But it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Khan if he gets passed over by Mayweather and ends up with nothing.

Khan has wasted the past 8 months just waiting for the Mayweather to happen, and he’s passed up fights that he could have taken in order not to risk a loss. I mean, I think it was stupid as heck for Khan just sit and wait on a fight that wasn’t a sure thing, but that was his decision. So what does Khan do if Mayweather chooses to fight Maidana instead?

Mayweather sees Khan getting stopped if he gives him a fight

By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) shows an ugly picture of what’ll be the end of one of Great Britain’s best fighters in Amir “King” Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) if he picks him out as the winner of the Mayweather lottery for May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although Mayweather still hasn’t said who he wants to fight in his next pay-per-view bout on Showtime, his tweet from day suggests a terrible outcome for Khan if he gives him the chance to take the fight.

Why Schaefer is wrong in giving Khan a chance against Mayweather?

khan4045(Amir Khan pictured here after his fight with Marcos Maidana) By Rameez Haider: After hearing Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer talk about Amir Khan having a great chance against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and after reading people’s responses, it seemed only right that someone actually bring it back down to reality and explain how Schaefer is just simply wrong.

Many people have spoken about Khan having great speed and being a good mover in the ring etc but if you look back at any of Khan’s fights there are some fundamentals that need to be taken into account.

Schaefer gives Khan a good chance against Mayweather

khan9By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer isn’t ready to let the cat out of the bag as far as who Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next opponent will be on May 3rd, but he is willing to say that he thinks Amir Khan has a good chance of beating Mayweather due to his hand speed advantage over him.

Schaefer sees Khan as having faster hands, and he points to Mayweather’s fight against a young Zab Judah back in 2006 as case of Mayweather struggling with a fighter with quick hands and feet. Mayweather beat Judah by the scores 119-109, 116-112, 117-111. If this is the best that an opponent with fast hands could go against Mayweather then I think Schaefer is going to be in for a big letdown if the Khan-Mayweather fight takes place on May 3rd.

Amir Khan’t Lose

khan43 (2)By Rob Blakeman: In a mysterious career Amir Khan appears to have secured a multimillion dollar payday with a fight against boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. How can he possibly deserve this chance? Well, Khan began life as a decent fighter securing a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics.

From then on the media spotlight, ably assisted by first manager Frank Warren, has followed his every move. The new Golden boy of British Boxing talked a great fighting career and legendary status. Soon, however, the hype was exploded as Khan was blasted out cold in one round by unknown Breidis Prescott. Warren then by brought over aging superstar Marco Barrera – well past his prime for Khan to look good against.

Why Mayweather vs. Khan Would Be an Awful Idea For Everyone

khan9By Michael Byrne: So if this fight – Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan on May 3rd – gets announced, which Khan is insistent that it will, there is almost nothing that could be gained from it in any sense. There is such a variety of problems with this fight.

Firstly, Mayweather needs to be taking on big names at this point in his career. He doesn’t have many fights left in him and it’s time to cement his legacy. And even if he doesn’t care about his legacy and just wants to make cash, he still needs big names to attract PPV buys. Khan isn’t really a name anymore. He was knocked out by Breidis Prescott, but he recovered and rebuilt.

Khan: The Announcements next month

khan11By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) let the cat out of the bag by saying today that the announcement for his May fight is coming up next month in January. In other words, Khan will be the one facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For some fans this is obviously going to be disappointing news because they were hoping that Mayweather would fight a live opponent, but I’m I’m kind of happy this fight is finally taking place. I won’t have to listen to Khan yap all the time about wanting a Mayweather fight. And the best part of all, once Mayweather beats him, then there won’t be any point in Khan talking about a fight between them anymore because it’ll be academic. No one will be asking for a rematch after this fight, and we can finally get some closure here with Khan getting his big dream fight.

Khan expects Mayweather fight news within next 2 weeks

khan111By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) is expecting Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) to make an announcement in the next couple of weeks naming him as his opponent for his May 3rd fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unlike Mayweather’s past opponents who have remained quiet about their status of getting chosen by him, Khan has been openly yaking it up about the Mayweather fight. It kind of takes all the mystery out of it when you’ve got Khan naming himself already as Mayweather’s next opponent.

“It’s the fight I’ve always been after and we’re very close now, not too far away,” Khan said to Sky Sports. “Hopefully something is going to be announced within the next couple of weeks…I have no doubt I can take it.
