Mayweather can make a lot of money fighting Khan, says Atlas

khan666By Scott Gilfoid: It’s still unknown who WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) will be fighting next May in his next fight. Some boxing fans think Mayweather should fight Amir Khan while others feel that WBO 147lb champion Manny Pacquiao is the guy that Mayweather should pick so that he can get the biggest payday possible.

ESPN’s Teddy Atlas sees Mayweather choosing Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) as his next opponent. Atlas sees a Mayweather-Khan fight as one that would make a lot of money for Mayweather whether it be in the United States or England. Atlas believes that a lot of boxing fans would be interested in seeing a Mayweather-Khan fight.

Khan will fight Mayweather next year, says Virgil Hunter

khan6By Scott Gilfoid: Virgil Hunter, the trainer for Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s), says he thinks that we’ll definitely be seeing Khan fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s). Hunter believes that Khan will be a much improved fighter by the time he faces Floyd Jr. next year because he’ll have another 2-3 training camps under his belt by the time they meet up in 2015.

“I believe Floyd Mayweather will fight Amir Khan next year, and I believe it’s a blessing in disguise because Amir will have another couple of fight and 2-3 more training camps,” Hunter said to Ringside. “Having that advantage will make it more dangerous for Floyd.”

Khan-Mayweather: Perception v reality

floyd#900By Shaun Ayres: Amir Khan v Floyd Mayweather Jr. is all but sealed for 3rd May at the MGM Grand. I have read countless articles and the subsequent opinions which then follow on from the article. There is a wealth of opinion, some justified, some not so much. So the question I am asking is how can a fight divide so many fight fans?

The first element of this question was poised by Amir Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter in which he raised the issue of Perception vs. Reality? This is an intrinsically good point to start with as there is a massive perception that Khan has a “Glass Jaw”! The reality is somewhat different. Yes, Prescott did knock Khan out; however, in Khan’s 4th round TKO loss to Danny Garcia in 2012, he finished on his feet.

Mayweather, please do not fight Khan!

khan3434By Bashar Khaddage: With the entire boxing world awaiting Floyd Mayweather Jr’s official announcement on who he fights next, a real fan of the sweet science can only hope he DOES NOT choose Amir Khan. I’m sorry, but no matter how you slice and dice it, Khan is not worthy of a fight with Floyd Money Mayweather.

With the stack of talent from the 140, 147 and 154 pound divisions, a fight with Khan is a bit of a joke. Yes, I understand that Khan is probably the only fighter out there who’s ‘faster’ than Mayweather, but come on, he has done absolutely NOTHING to deserve a fight with the pound for pound king. He’s been knocked out several times, and has done little since his KO loss to Danny Garcia to redeem himself.

Danny Garcia : “Mayweather vs. Khan will be better than the Canelo fight”

khan#3By Mohamed Horomtallah: Undefeated champion Danny “Swift” Garcia shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Amir “King” Khan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_DkX7sQyFQ).

He said that he believes it will be more competitive and more exciting than Mayweather’s last fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Danny who faced Khan in 2012 thinks that Khan’s speed, movement and work rate will challenge the pound for pound king.

Garcia should know what he’s talking about and maybe that’s why he doesn’t want a rematch with Khan because should Khan fight a little bit smarter, he knows he does not stand a chance.

Mayweather vs. Khan: A great fight

khan3333By Abbad Ashraf: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has a natural defense against pressure fighters, as we’ve seen in his last fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Mayweather picks it’s prey carefully choosing opponents that are not be able to break his armor. You have to respect that he defends himself against his opponent’s best assets efficiently and effectively through the pre-fight terms and timing.

Mayweather has sufficient power but not capable of crushing his opponents. He is not a impervious fighter as Muhammad Ali. Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao, and other elite level fighters that challenge Mayweather’s supremacy over his time era.

Griffin: Khan vs. Mayweather is a business fight

floyd765By Allan Fox: Former WBC light heavyweight champion Montell Griffin thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr’s possible fight against Amir Khan on May 3rd is nothing more than a business fight for Floyd. He sees it as a case of Mayweather Jr. looking at Khan’s huge fan base and wanting to take advantage of it by fighting him to make a lot of money.

Griffin doesn’t see Khan-Mayweather fight as being a fight that has anything to do with competition. It’s just money. In other words, Griffin sees this as a mismatch between vastly superior fighter in Mayweather against a flawed fighter in Khan.

Mayweather vs. Khan will lose money, says Roach

khan5235743By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) will be asking for trouble if he selects Amir Khan b(28-3, 19 KO’s) to fight on May 3rd instead of someone popular like Manny Pacquiao. Roach doesn’t see the 27-year-old Khan as having the popularity in the United States for Mayweather to bring in the kind of pay-per-view buys that he needs to bring in by virtue of his Showtime/CBS contract.

“Amir Khan and him are not going to bring in big numbers,” Roach said to Radio Raheem. “They’re going to lose money on those shows. The thing is Showtime/CBS is in the business of making money. They need fights like Pacquiao-Mayweather to be profitable.”

Khan is not Ricky Hatton for Mayweather; the fan interest won’t be as high

khan5656By Scott Gilfoid: There’s been some talk about how Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) will bring the same amount of interest to his proposed fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) than Ricky Hatton did when he fought Mayweather Jr. back in December of 2007. The Hatton-Mayweather fight brought in 850,000 PPV buys.

At the time it was considered a success because Hatton was a British fighter, and he wasn’t well known in the United States. However, Hatton had an unbeaten record going for him at 43-0 with 31 knockouts. That in itself helped sell the fight. Khan doesn’t have that.

Roger Mayweather sees Khan as better opponent for Floyd than Maidana

floyd7878111By Chris Williams: In another sign that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) will likely be facing Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) on May 3rd rather than WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s), Roger Mayweather, the trainer for Mayweather Jr., Roger thinks that Khan is the better option for Floyd Jr. to fight next rather than Maidana.

Roger sees it coming down to Khan being the bigger fight for Floyd Jr. than a fight against Maidana. Roger doesn’t say why he feels this way, but he just thinks Khan has the bigger profile and the more recognizable name than the Argentinian Maidana.

“I think Amir Khan is a bigger fight. You got to have a guy that can stand up in order to get that television, to get television to watch it,” Roger said to Hustleboss.
