Where does Khan go if he doesn’t get the Mayweather dream bout?

But it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Khan if he gets passed over by Mayweather and ends up with nothing.

Khan has wasted the past 8 months just waiting for the Mayweather to happen, and he’s passed up fights that he could have taken in order not to risk a loss. I mean, I think it was stupid as heck for Khan just sit and wait on a fight that wasn’t a sure thing, but that was his decision. So what does Khan do if Mayweather chooses to fight Maidana instead?

Does Khan sit and wait some more in order not to risk getting knocked out again or does he get back in the ring and take a safe fight against another little known 2nd tier lightweight with no power or another over the hill fighter? If Khan does decide to wait on Mayweather, he’d be waiting until September of 2014 without a guarantee that he’d get the fight. Yeah, Khan would avoid a loss by waiting around that long, but his name value would drop due to him being out of the ring for so long.

As it turns out, Khan’s decision not to fight IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander on December 7th was a blow it move by him, because if he had looked spectacular in beating Alexander, he’d have made it a lot easier choice for Mayweather to select him. I don’t care how good Maidana looked in beating Adrien Broner. If Khan had beaten Alexander, it would be academic in him getting the Mayweather fight. He’d have a lot of people taking about his fight, and he’d be relevant. Khan hasn’t fought since last April in beating a past his prime Julio Diaz, and he looked terrible in barely winning that fight.

If Khan can’t even beat Diaz without controversy, then why would he be getting a fight against Mayweather? Khan should have known that with his dreadful performance against Diaz that he needed at least 2 good victories to make sure he got the Mayweather fight. He should have came back and fought in the Summer and then fought in Alexander in December. With two good victories against fighters with a pulse, I think Khan would get the fight with Mayweather. But instead he chose to just sit around and hope that he gets the fight, and it looks like he might not get it now.

If Khan doesn’t have confidence in himself to fight the best guys at 147, then he needs to stay at 140 and try and go after a rematch against Lamont Peterson, because I think he’s the only champion in the light welterweight division that he’d have a chance of beating. I don’t think Khan could hang with the Danny Garcia in a rematch, and I don’t think he could beat the top welterweights.
