Khan: The Announcements next month

khan11By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KO’s) let the cat out of the bag by saying today that the announcement for his May fight is coming up next month in January. In other words, Khan will be the one facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For some fans this is obviously going to be disappointing news because they were hoping that Mayweather would fight a live opponent, but I’m I’m kind of happy this fight is finally taking place. I won’t have to listen to Khan yap all the time about wanting a Mayweather fight. And the best part of all, once Mayweather beats him, then there won’t be any point in Khan talking about a fight between them anymore because it’ll be academic. No one will be asking for a rematch after this fight, and we can finally get some closure here with Khan getting his big dream fight.

Khan said today:

Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter is going to have his work cut out for him because how do you get Khan ready for a fighter as talented as Mayweather? I don’t see what Hunter can come up with to make it a competitive fight. In Khan’s last fight against Julio Diaz, Hunter was giving Khan instructions in between rounds, and Khan was immediately going out and getting nailed repeatedly by big shots. Hunter looked almost helpless towards the end of the fight when Khan was getting staggered by left hooks from the past his best Diaz.

I’m sure Mayweather has done his research well and found out that boxing fans are more interested in seeing him fight Khan than guys like Marcos Maidana, Erislandy Lara, Gennady Golovkin, and Danny Garcia. I still wouldn’t mind seeing Mayweather fight Maidana though, because he’s picked up a lot of fans with his win over Adrien Broner last Saturday night, and I think a Mayweather-Maidana fight would be a lot more interesting than Khan-Mayweather. At least with Maidana you can count on him being around for the full 12 rounds against Mayweather. With Khan, will be lucky if he makes it to the 6th round. I see this fight as having Khan knockout written all over it.

Khan says he’s improved all of his flaws recently. This is going be funny as heck to see how much he’s improved them on May 3rd.
