Tyson Fury not impressed with Deontay Wilder’s win over Price

wilder3By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) wasn’t impressed with the performance of American heavyweight knockout artist Deontay Wilder’s 3rd round demolition of Kelvin Price (13-1, 6 KO’s) last night in Los Angeles, California. Fury thinks that his last opponent Kevin Johnson would beat the 27-year-old Wilder, and Fury suggests that Wilder fight unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price.

Fury said on his twitter “Just watched Wilder fight! Not impressed at all. He couldn’t beat Kevin Johnson! Very raw and open to big shots! [Wilder has a] Long way to go, [but] big punch. Wilder and [David] Price are the same, untested hype! To be a top fighter you need more than a punch! They have a long way to go. Why not fight each other. [It] would be good.”

Fury: Vitali is an old man; he will not fight me

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight contender Tyson Fury was getting a little lippy after beating Kevin Johnson last Saturday night by a 12 round unanimous decision in going in a rant about WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko possibly not wanting to give him a title shot before he retires.

Hennessy: Price isn’t going to get a 50-50 deal with Tyson Fury

By William Mackay: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price’s promoter Frank Maloney just finished offering a more than fair offer of £650,000 to unbeaten Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) for a big Price-Fury fight that could take place next year. The offer was rejected by Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy, as he’s looking for bigger money than that.

Fury’s promoter turns down £650,000 offer for Price fight

Image: Fury's promoter turns down £650,000 offer for Price fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy has turned down a huge £650,000 offer from unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price’s promoter Frank Maloney for a potential fight in early 2013. Apparently, it wasn’t a big enough offer for Hennessy, although it’s likely a lot more than Fury would get to face one of the Klitschko brothers.

Hennessy said to the telegraph.co.uk “If David Price doesn’t meet our terms, the fight won’t happen. He’s just trying to get publicity by calling out Tyson. If Price and Maloney are going to put out offers, they need to make the offers serious.”

Fury and Price missing the spark needed to get to the next level

Image: Fury and Price missing the spark needed to get to the next levelBy Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweights Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) and David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) both came out ahead against weak opponents this past weekend in fights that painfully one-sided. Fury and Price’s opponents weren’t offensively oriented, so that neither of the two Brits had to worry about getting hit back. It was as if they had the win even before they entered the ring by choosing opposition that wouldn’t press the attack and test their chins.

My thoughts are this about Price:

Hennessy: Fury’s power had Johnson running for cover

Image: Hennessy: Fury's power had Johnson running for coverBy Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Mick Hennessy is seemingly in ecstasy after watching his fighter unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) beat up an under-trained Kevin Johnson (28-3-1, 13 kO’s) last Saturday night in a pretty much one-sided 12 round unanimous decision for Fury at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The performance has Hennessy thinking Fury has the talent to win a world title in 2013, and Johnson seems to be on board with that belief.

Hennessy told express.co.uk “Tyson turns 25 next year and his early boxing education is now over as he needs to fight for the world title. His power had Johnson running for cover – and Johnson is quality.”

Kevin Johnson: Fury can beat the Klitschkos

Image: Kevin Johnson: Fury can beat the KlitschkosBy Scott Gilfoid: I think heavyweight Tyson Fury’s 12 round decision win over Kevin Johnson last Saturday night did something to him because Johnson is now saying that Fury punches harder than WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and that he could beat the Klitschkos.

Johnson said to express.co.uk “Tyson Fury hits harder than anyone I’ve faced – and that includes Vitali Klitschko…Could he beat the Klitschkos? Yes, he could. I’ve fought and gone 12 rounds with Vitali Klitschko, so I should know.”

Fury willing to fight Price first followed by one of the Klitschkos

Image: Fury willing to fight Price first followed by one of the KlitschkosBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tyson Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy says that he’s willing to set up a fight next between Fury and British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price if Price wants the fight. Hennessy says he’s willing to have Fury bypass a world title challenge against one of the Klitschkos in order to make the fight with Price.

Speaking with the Daily Telegraph at telegraph.co.uk, Hennessy said “We asked David Price to step forward if he wants this fight…we would put a world title fight on hold for David Price if he stepped up to the table.”

British Heavyweight Weekend: What did we learn?

Image: British Heavyweight Weekend: What did we learn?By Paul McT: Both Tyson Fury and David Price were in action over the last two days, both came away with a win but what did each fight say about how far these prospects have come?

Friday night boxing in Britain is uncommon, but a welcome addition nonetheless. Friday’s action was interesting, with Price fighting a tough weathered fighter in Matt Skelton, and Andrew ”Freddie” Flintoff  facing off against Richard Dawson, a fellow novice. The less said about the Flintoff fight the better, although I myself appreciate the publicity boxing received.

David Price: More of the same

Yet another brutal knockout victory for the softly spoken Price showcased his power, again. As impressive as his power is, the recent lack of rounds is dangerous, we have yet to see him being pushed or even have his defence tested.
