Image: Fury willing to fight Price first followed by one of the KlitschkosBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Tyson Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy says that he’s willing to set up a fight next between Fury and British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price if Price wants the fight. Hennessy says he’s willing to have Fury bypass a world title challenge against one of the Klitschkos in order to make the fight with Price.

Speaking with the Daily Telegraph at telegraph.co.uk, Hennessy said “We asked David Price to step forward if he wants this fight…we would put a world title fight on hold for David Price if he stepped up to the table.”

What world title fight? WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has said nothing about whether he’ll retire or not, and he’s said zero about fighting Fury. And Wladimir Klitschko has other plans for next year, and Fury isn’t in the picture for those plans. It’s unclear why Hennessy mentioning Wladimir’s name because Wladimir reportedly has no plans on fighting Fury. The next fight Wladimir takes is any ones guess, but it won’t be Fury.

Hennessy should try and put Fury in with Price, because that’s the only shot Fury has for getting a big money fight for the time being unless the Klitschkos show some interest, and it doesn’t look like that’s happening. Fury can make big bank if he fights Price, and if he wins it’ll help his career.

Fury may have to wait at least 2 years to get a shot against Wladimir, because Fury isn’t ranked high enough by the sanctioning bodies where Wladimir holds a title. He’s currently ranked #8 by the World Boxing Organization, and that means at least 2 years, possibly 3 before Fury gets ranked high enough to get a title shot.

So if I was Fury I would take the fight with Price. So what if Fury loses. At least he’ll get a good payday in the process.

Fury’s win over Kevin Johnson last Saturday night in Belfast, Northern Ireland showed all the flaws that Fury has for the world to see. No power, no defense, just running around, throwing weak slapping punches, and showboating without looking good. It was sad because Fury doesn’t have the tools to beat the top heavyweights in the division, as we saw in this fight, and his promoter keeps matching him against lesser guys instead of the top cream of the division.
