Image: Fury's promoter turns down £650,000 offer for Price fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy has turned down a huge £650,000 offer from unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price’s promoter Frank Maloney for a potential fight in early 2013. Apparently, it wasn’t a big enough offer for Hennessy, although it’s likely a lot more than Fury would get to face one of the Klitschko brothers.

Hennessy said to the telegraph.co.uk “If David Price doesn’t meet our terms, the fight won’t happen. He’s just trying to get publicity by calling out Tyson. If Price and Maloney are going to put out offers, they need to make the offers serious.”

Gee, I wonder what Hennessy’s terms are? He’s not exactly what he wants so it’s anyone’s guess.

I can’t say I blame Hennessy for saying no to the deal. I think Price would smash Fury no problem any day of the week if the fight gets made. Once that happens, Fury and Hennessy can forget all about a Klitschko fight because Fury would be pushed down far in the rankings and it would take ages for him to work his way back up again.

I don’t think Price is a good match-up for Fury because he doesn’t have the power to take Price out, and that would mean that he’d have to go 12 rounds with Price hitting him a lot. Price may be stiff, robotic and lacking an inside game, but he can punch a little and if you put him in with a guy that already has a history of getting hurt by lesser punchers, I think Fury would get knocked out cold. As such, I don’t think we’re going to see Hennessy agreeing to any offer made by Price’s promoter Maloney, no matter how high the offer. I just see this as a case of Hennessy not wanting the fight for Fury.
