By William Mackay: Huge underdog Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) says he’s going to try and box hard hitting Saul Alvarez on Saturday night rather than playing into the Mexican’s hands by trying to slug with him and getting hurt. However, Hatton, 29, says he’s going to take the fight to Alvarez if he believes he’s the stronger fighter.
Canelo Alvarez
Santos Saul Álvarez Barragán, better known as Canelo, which translates to ‘cinnamon’ for his fiery red hair, has spiced up the boxing scene since his debut. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990, this pugilist has clinched world championships across four weight divisions, making him a staple in the Hall of Fame pantry. Canelo unified titles in three divisions and claimed lineal championships in two, notably overpowering Miguel Cotto in 2015 for the WBC, Ring, and lineal middleweight crowns. Outside the ring, Canelo’s life is just as sweet, sharing it with his two kids, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez and Mía Ener Álvarez, and his wife, Fernanda Gómez, since 2021. According to Forbes, Canelo is worth at least $275 million!
Alvarez can weigh no more than 160 on Saturday night for Hatton fight
By William Mackay: On Friday, Saul Alvarez failed to make the agreed upon weight of 150 lbs for the catchweight fight for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title against welterweight Matthew Hatton, the brother of Ricky Hatton. Alvarez came in at 151.8, close to two pounds over the limit. Alvarez was then penalized 20% of his purse for the fight. But it doesn’t stop there. They then negotiated that Alvarez cannot come in over 160 pounds for the fight on Saturday.
Roach doesn’t give Hatton any chance against Alvarez
By William Mackay: Photo credit Leopoldo Gonzalez -Trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t like the idea of Saul Alvarez and Matthew Hatton fighting for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title on Saturday night. Roach, who trains Manny Pacquiao, feels that this is bad for boxing because the 29-year-old Hatton still hasn’t fought anyone of quality yet during his career.
Hatton thinks his fight with Alvarez will be close: Is he deluded?
By Scott Gilfoid: Photo credit Leopoldo Gonzalez – It’s sad to see how excited Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) is about his fight this Saturday with unbeaten Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Hatton, 29, is as happy as a puppy with this fight, and he thinks he’s going to win it. I don’t know of anyone that sees Hatton winning the fight and as far as I can tell, Hatton has been brought in as fodder for Alvarez.
WBC title at stake: Is it Alvarez or Hatton’s fault?
By Gerardo Granados: Photo credit Leopoldo Gonzalez – Since the Alvarez vs. Hatton fight was switched from originally disputing the WBC silver light welterweight title to dispute the vacant WBC light middleweight belt most of boxing writers and fans are too critical about this decision. Lets start by clearing that neither Alvarez or Hatton are responsible of the decisions that their promoters make, so it is not fair to blame “Canelo” or “Magic.”
Matthew Hatton not worried about Alvarez being the crowd favorite on Saturday
By William Mackay: 29-year-old Matthew Hatton is trying his best to ignore being a huge underdog against Saul Alvarez on Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. More than that, Alvarez will also be a huge crowd favorite in this fight, as Alvarez will have a lot of his Mexican fans coming to see him fight.
Matthew Hatton says Alvarez hasn’t had to dig deep in fights
By Eric Thomas: Photo credit Leopoldo Gonzalez – EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) questions the experience of unbeaten Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) going into their fight this Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Hatton, 29, doesn’t believe that the 20-year-old Alvarez has had to battle hard when a fight is on the line to pull out a win like he has.
Alvarez faces welterweight Hatton on Saturday for WBC junior middleweight title
By Scott Gilfoid: For some reason, EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) is being allowed to fight for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title on Saturday night against #1 WBC contender Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. How the 29-year-old Hatton has gotten the shot is beyond me. Why is Hatton, a mere EBU welterweight champ, allowed to fight for the vacant WBC title when he’s never fought at junior middleweight in his life? That just seems so wrong.
Hatton: I hope everyone doesn’t get too upset when I beat Alvarez
By Sean McDaniel: If nothing else, Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) is confident about his chances of beating undefeated Mexican slugger Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. Hatton, 29, is a huge underdog in this fight despite being nine years older than the 20-year-old Alvarez. But in this case, Hatton’s age is meaningless because Alvarez can punch like a mule with either hand and Hatton doesn’t have the armament to trade with Alvarez for long.
