Matthew Hatton not worried about Alvarez being the crowd favorite on Saturday

By William Mackay: 29-year-old Matthew Hatton is trying his best to ignore being a huge underdog against Saul Alvarez on Saturday night at the Honda Center, in Anaheim, California. More than that, Alvarez will also be a huge crowd favorite in this fight, as Alvarez will have a lot of his Mexican fans coming to see him fight.

Hatton will be lucky to hand a small handful of British fans flying over From the UK and maybe a tiny amount of British fans that live in the U.S. As such, it doesn’t look like Hatton will be finding much love on Saturday night. Hatton says he’s not bothered by it, and that it will be just him and Alvarez I the ring and not the fans.

That sounds all well and good but unfortunately Hatton is going to be in with a fighter with a lot more power than him and the fans will make it a lot worse for him. This is a fight where it probably doesn’t matter how many fans are supporting or rooting against Hatton.

Alvarez, with his big power, will probably put Hatton’s lights out within 5 or 6 rounds unless Hatton fights defensively the way that Lovemore N’dou did when he survived for 12 rounds against Alvarez in December. N’dou survived by fighting defensively but he lost a lopsided 12 round decision. If Hatton can do what N’dou did in December, Hatton will at least be able to avoid getting knocked out.

That’s about it though. He’s too mediocre and weak to win the fight, and just surviving will be all he can really count on in this fight. It’s too bad that Amir Khan wasn’t in there with Alvarez because it would be a much more interesting fight than this mismatch.
