By Scott Gilfoid: EBU welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) has decided to risk all and go after unbeaten knockout artist Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) next instead of going after easier targets like WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko or Junior Witter. The contracts for the Alvarez fight will reportedly be signed in the new few days. The bout will be taking place on March 5th.
Canelo Alvarez
Santos Saul Álvarez Barragán, better known as Canelo, which translates to ‘cinnamon’ for his fiery red hair, has spiced up the boxing scene since his debut. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990, this pugilist has clinched world championships across four weight divisions, making him a staple in the Hall of Fame pantry. Canelo unified titles in three divisions and claimed lineal championships in two, notably overpowering Miguel Cotto in 2015 for the WBC, Ring, and lineal middleweight crowns. Outside the ring, Canelo’s life is just as sweet, sharing it with his two kids, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez and Mía Ener Álvarez, and his wife, Fernanda Gómez, since 2021. According to Forbes, Canelo is worth at least $275 million!
Matthew Hatton hoping to fight Senchenko for WBA title, Alvarez and Witter are also options
By Sean McDaniel: European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KO’s) is hoping to challenge WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) in his next fight. Fighting for a world title has been a dream for Hatton, the brother of former two division world champion Ricky Hatton, all his life. However, fighting and beating Senchenko won’t give Hatton much respect or credibility among boxing fans, because Senchenko is considered one of the two paper champions in the welterweight division.

Saul Alvarez vs. Vyacheslav Senchenko not looking good
By Dan Ambrose: The proposed bout between unbeaten welterweight/junior middleweight contender Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) and unbeaten World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) looks like it won’t be taking place. Fightnews is reporting that the negotiations aren’t working out between the two fighters.
Saul Alvarez needs to forget about Senchenko and focus on taking on bigger names at junior middleweight
By Dan Ambrose: 20-year-year-old Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) and his management are kidding themselves if they want this kid to stay at welterweight and fight for the WBA welterweight paper title against little known Vyacheslav Senchenko next year. It’s a waste of a time to have Alvarez, now the WBC Silver junior middleweight champion, boil down to make 147 just to pick up this worthless paper title that no one will care about. These worthless trinkets have no meaning unless they’re won against fighters that boxing fans that really care about.
Saul Alvarez could be fighting for WBA paper title against Senchenko on 3/5
By Dan Ambrose: WBC Silver junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) could be fighting for a paper title against World boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Viacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) on March 5th. Golden Boy Promotions, the management for Alvarez, are looking for him to pick up a title and are positioning for him to fight the little known 33-year-old Senchenko rather than someone more dangerous that could beat him.
Saul Alvarez could be facing Vyacheslav Senchenko for WBA welterweight title
By Dan Ambrose: #3 ranked WBA contender Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) could be facing World Boxing Association welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko (31-0, 20 KO’s) in March 2011, according to fightnews.com. Senchenko, 33, is considered by many fans to be the weakest of the four welterweight champions and a paper champion. With all the hype that Alvarez has received since turning pro in 2005, you’d think that he would step up to the plate and take on a better fighter than Senchenko, someone like WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
Light Middleweight world titles are becoming like a peace pipe
By Mark Hepplestall: After another loss for Anthony Mundine and looking at the world rankings, we must ask who are the current world champions? Well after some research I can say Manny Pacquiao holds the WBC light middleweight title and is number 1 in the world, Miguel Cotto holds the World Boxing Association (WBA) version and is number 2 in the world, IBF version is held by Cornelius Bundrage and is number 7 in the world and WBO is held by Serhiy Dzinziruk who is 26th in the world. While the titles that are not world recognized including the IBO title is held by Zaurbek Baysangurov and is 17th in the world. It seems weird that the world champions are ranked lower then some of the best contenders in the division.
Saul Alvarez decisions 39-year-old Lovemore N’dou, but looks horrible
By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KO’s) failed to impress last night with a 12 round unanimous decision win over 39-year-old Lovemore N’dou (48-12-2, 31 KO’s) at the Estadio Beto Avila, Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico. Alvarez, 20, clearly won the fight but he took a lot of head shots in the fight and looked a lot like a plodder as he came forward. In looking at how easily N’dou was able to land hard flush shots throughout the fight, it has me wondered whether Alvarez is already showing early signs of deterioration form this fight and his earlier fights while coming up.
