By Matt Stein: Undefeated welterweight contender Saul Alvarez (34-0-1, 26 KO’s) may have another easy mark for his next fight. According to the Record, the 20-year-old Alvarez will be facing European Boxing Union (EBU) welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (40-4-2, 15 KO’s) on December 4th, in Cancun, Mexico. Given how wide open Alvarez looked on defense in his last fight with 39-year-old Carlos Baldomir last weekend, I had a feeling that his promoter, Golden Promotions, would continue to match Alvarez soft to keep him from getting beaten.

Santos Saul Álvarez Barragán, better known as Canelo, which translates to ‘cinnamon’ for his fiery red hair, has spiced up the boxing scene since his debut. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1990, this pugilist has clinched world championships across four weight divisions, making him a staple in the Hall of Fame pantry. Canelo unified titles in three divisions and claimed lineal championships in two, notably overpowering Miguel Cotto in 2015 for the WBC, Ring, and lineal middleweight crowns. Outside the ring, Canelo’s life is just as sweet, sharing it with his two kids, Emily Cinnamon Alvarez and Mía Ener Álvarez, and his wife, Fernanda Gómez, since 2021. According to Forbes, Canelo is worth at least $275 million!

By Matt Stein: Fresh off his 6th round knockout victory over 39-year-old Carlos Baldomir on Saturday night, 20-year-old unbeaten welterweight contender Saul Alvarez (34-0-1, 26 KO’s) will reportedly be back in the ring quickly, as his promotional company Golden Boy Promotions wants Alvarez to fight on December 4th in Mexico against a still to be determined opponent. GBP also signed Alvarez to a multi-year contract today, which may or may not be a smart thing because we still don’t know whether Alvarez will be a future star or not.

Alvarez, 20, proved that he can beat a 39-year-old Carlos Baldomir (45-13-6, 14 KO’s) on Saturday night, stopping him in the 6th round on the undercard of the Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora bout at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

By Jim Dower: Unbeaten junior middleweight contender Saul Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KO’s) faces the biggest test of his career on Saturday night against former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir (45-12-6, 14 KO’s) in a 12 round bout for the WBC Silver junior middleweight title on the undercard of the Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora bout at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. This is a big leap up for the young 20-year-old Alvarez to be taking, because he looked pretty beatable two fights ago beating Jose Miguel Cotto, older 33-year-old brother of WBA light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

By Dan Ambrose: Coming off what is clearly his worst performance of his 17-year pro career, 39-year-old Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KO’s) will be facing former World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight champion Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora (22-1-6 KO’s) in a 12 round non-title bout on Saturday night at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles. The bout will be going for a cool $49.95 on pay per view, but if you compare it to the $55 you’d have to pay to see the mismatch fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito, the Mora-Mosley fight seems like the much better deal for you money.

Alvarez, 19, knocked the over-matched 26-year-old Cuello down in the 1st and the 2nd rounds with hard left hands.

It’s surprising that they’re even bothering to fight for this obscure trinket, because it seems hardly worth it and few boxing fans will care about the made up title. By Jim Dower: With all the hype that has been thrown around about 19-year-old welterweight contender/prospect Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KO’s) by boxing fans, I was expecting a lot better than what I saw from Alvarez last Saturday night against veteran light welterweight Jose Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alvarez looked nothing like a future champion, as far as I’m concerned. Alvarez has decent power, but his defense and his chin seem questionable.
