Will Mora put Mosley out of his misery this Saturday?

Image: Will Mora put Mosley out of his misery this Saturday?By Dan Ambrose: Coming off what is clearly his worst performance of his 17-year pro career, 39-year-old Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KO’s) will be facing former World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight champion Sergio “Latin Snake” Mora (22-1-6 KO’s) in a 12 round non-title bout on Saturday night at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles. The bout will be going for a cool $49.95 on pay per view, but if you compare it to the $55 you’d have to pay to see the mismatch fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito, the Mora-Mosley fight seems like the much better deal for you money.

Saul Alvarez stops Cuello in six

Image: Saul Alvarez stops Cuello in sixPhoto credit: HG Boxing. Leopoldo Gonzalez – By Jason Kim: Unbeaten welterweight contender Saul Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KO’s) was much too powerful for Argentinean light middleweight Luciano Leonel Cuello (26-2, 12 KO’s), stopping him in the 6th round of a one-sided bout on Saturday night to capture the WBC Silver middleweight title at the Arena VFG, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Alvarez, 19, knocked the over-matched 26-year-old Cuello down in the 1st and the 2nd rounds with hard left hands.

Saul Alvarez vs. Cuello this Saturday

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten highly ranked welterweight contender Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KO’s) takes a slight step up in competition this Saturday night against 26-year-old Argentinean Luciano Leonel Cuello (26-1, 12 KO’s) in a scheduled 12 round bout for little known Word Boxing Council (WBC) Silver light middleweight title at the Arena VFG, in Guadalajara, Mexico. It’s surprising that they’re even bothering to fight for this obscure trinket, because it seems hardly worth it and few boxing fans will care about the made up title. Alvarez, 19, will be turning 20 later this month on July 18th.

Saul Alvarez will likely stop Cuello on Saturday, but so what – take the training wheels off already

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten junior middleweight Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KO’s) will be fighting Luciano Leonel Cuello (26-1, 12 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Arena VFG, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I expect the soon to be 20-year-old Alvarez to win this fight, and possibly win it by stoppage, but so what? It’s time to take the training wheels off of Alvarez’s tricycle and put him in with someone really good so he can grow as a fighter.

Saul Alvarez vs. Luciano Leonel Cuello on July 10th

Alvarez, 19, is taking on a little better opponent than he’s faced in the past and his management are hoping that Alvarez looks good and shows signs of progress. Alvarez, 5’9″, moved up in weight from the welterweight division recently, where he’s ranked number #3 WBC, #4 WBO, and #5 WBA.

Does Saul Alvarez have what it takes to be a future champion?

By Jim Dower: With all the hype that has been thrown around about 19-year-old welterweight contender/prospect Saul Alvarez (32-0-1, 24 KO’s) by boxing fans, I was expecting a lot better than what I saw from Alvarez last Saturday night against veteran light welterweight Jose Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alvarez looked nothing like a future champion, as far as I’m concerned. Alvarez has decent power, but his defense and his chin seem questionable.

Saul Alvarez – March or Die

Image: Saul Alvarez - March or DieBy Francisco Hernandez: In the Mexican countryside “Canelo” is a name commonly given to race horses which have a dark reddish hue. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, true to his nickname is racing ahead of the young warrior who once overshadowed him, Julio Cesar Chavez Junior. On May 1, 2010, Saul Alvarez will fight Mathew Hatton on the Mayweather, Jr. Mosley undercard. Chavez Junior had his opportunity in the undercard of the Pacquiao – Cotto fight, but failed to convince boxing fans.

Matthew Hatton vs. Saul Alvarez on Mayweather-Mosley undercard?

Image: Matthew Hatton vs. Saul Alvarez on Mayweather-Mosley undercard?By Chris Williams: Welterweight contender Matthew Hatton (38-4-2, 15 KO’s) could be the sacrificial lamb for unbeaten welterweight contender/prospect Saul Alvarez (30-0-1, 22 KO’s) to try and look good against on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Shane Mosley undercard on May 1st at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Having seen Alvarez’s last six bouts, I can say this: he looks like a terribly flawed fighter with zero defense and slow hand speed. Alvarez has a good right hand, but that’s about all he has. His left hook is poor, and he loads up with everything he throws.
