Chavez: Pacquiao shouldn’t focus on God, should instead become a demon for Mayweather fight

Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: Boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez believes that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao needs to change his focus from religion to becoming a demon when he gets inside the ring with WBA/WBC 147 pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their unification match next month.

Chavez couldn’t miss the fact that Pacquiao is focused on God frequently. Chavez thinks he’s going to need to go on the attack with a demon-like personality when faces Mayweather because he feels that he’ll need a knockout for him to get the ‘W’ against the 38-year-old Mayweather.

Chavez Jr’s stock drops after he quits on his stool against Fonfara

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfN-6LPG0Js
By Dan Ambrose: Last Saturday night former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32 KOs) quit on his stool following the 9th round in his fight against light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Chavez Jr. had been knocked down in the 9th by a short left hook by Fonfara that Chavez Jr. appeared not to be expecting. And while Chavez Jr. got back to his feet and did an admirable job of surviving the remaining seconds of the round, he ended up quitting on his stool after the round had ended.

De La Hoya hopes Canelo vs. Kirkland breaks Chavez-Whitaker attendance record at Alamodome in San Antonio, TX

canelo8By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya is hoping that his fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s fight against James Kirkland (32-1, 28 KOs) on May 2nd will break the long-standing record for attendance at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The date of the Canelo-Kirkland fight may change from the 2nd of May to the 9th, depending on whether the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao mega-fight takes place on May 2nd.

Canelo-Kirkland can’t take place on the same night on May 2nd as Mayweather-Pacquiao, because that pay-per-view broadcast will be televised on both HBO and Showtime. Unless Canelo wants to be a part of that card, he has pretty much no other choice but to fight on a different date, because it’s highly unlikely that HBO is going to televise two separate boxing cards on the same day on their network.

Chavez Sr comments on Canelo vs. Lara fight

canelo037By Francisco Gurrola: Watching the TV show “Golpe a Golpe, I was very interested as to what the comments would be about the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara fight. My first Impressions on the commentators was that none of them were fully satisfied with the fight at the MGM Grand on July 12th; as if something was missing, something was incomplete, perhaps as if the fight didn’t even happen.

When the ESPN commentators asked Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. about the fight his expressions said it all. These aren’t exact words, but from a recap the legend suggested that “Canelo” Alvarez did not do enough to come out victorious; at the same time he also acknowledged that Lara was on the same boat as Canelo.

Boxingnews24’s Top Ten Mexican greatest fighters

chavez2422442By Gerardo Granados: Mexico is a country with a huge boxing tradition, a nation in love with brave fighters and one that harbors a breed of the best boxing fans for their support but also one fan base that can be very demanding to their co-nationals. Most of the Mexican fighters will be known for their heart and macho attitude in and outside the ring. And, yes, most of them are brawlers and many lack great footwork and can’t be considered as slick boxing technicians but for sure they are some of the bravest and meanest sons of boxing.

There are no exceptions to the rule of the Mexican fighters fan friendly boxing style but there is a group who have excelled as prize fighters; the ones who can risk it all but also are really skilled.

Chavez Jr. to be trained by his father Julio Sr. for Vera bout

chavez50By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) will have his father Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. as his trainer for his September 7th fight against Brian Vera (23-6, 14 KO’s) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

This should be an interesting experiment. If Chavez Jr. can actually listen to his father, and follow the directions, it’s possible that it could work between them. However, in HBO’s 24/7 episodes leading up to Chavez Jr’s fight with Sergio Martinez last September, Chavez Jr. seemed to tune out Chavez Sr. when he was trying to give him important advice.

Let us not forget Meldrick Taylor vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. I

chavez2422442By Gerardo Granados: It has been twenty three years since boxing fans got the chance to witness one of the best fights of all times. Maybe for some fans this fight wont be ranked as number one but for sure it must rank among the personal top ten list. Back in march 17 of 1990 Julio Cesar Chavez won by TKO 12 with only two seconds left elevating himself as a world boxing star.

Richard Steele was highly criticized for stopping the fight although it was evident that Taylor made the count but was knocked out on his feet. Do the young boxing fans have ever seen this fight? If you don´t then you must watch it and decide if Lou Duva had a valid reason to be so angry after the referee stopped the fight.

Saul Alvarez: I want to be better than Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

alvarez3By Dan Ambrose: One of the goals that WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) has set for himself is to become a better fighter than boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (107-6-2, 86 KO’s) was. It’s going to be hard to do because Alvarez has some basic problems that could get in his way. He’s not as fast on his feet as Chavez Sr. was in his prime, as he’s much more of a heavy-bodied fighter without the head movement and crushing power.

Chavez Sr. was a huge puncher at super featherweight to welterweight, whereas Alvarez is someone that has to take his opponents out by an accumulation of punches over many rounds.
