Chavez Sr. needs to let Julio Jr. sink or swim without advice

Image: Chavez Sr. needs to let Julio Jr. sink or swim without adviceBy Dan Ambrose: If you had the chance to see the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr-Sergio Martinez 24/7 episodes on HBO as well as the Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez fight itself on September 15th last month], you’ll have no doubt observed that Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. spent a lot of time trying to help his son Chavez Jr. out by giving him expert advice on the things that he had spotted in Martinez’s game that he felt that Chavez Jr. could exploit.

In hindsight the things that Chavez Sr. said were dead on correct, such as backing Martinez up with combinations and then getting out. But Chavez Jr. often looked bored and disinterested in the advice that was given to him by his dad. It looked as if Chavez Jr. didn’t really welcome his father telling him things and that he seemed to want to do it his own way.

Who do you pick? Duran vs. Chavez

Image: Who do you pick? Duran vs. ChavezBy Gerardo Granados: Same approach as the last question, both in their prime, young macho Latinos, eager to prove they are the best. This fight will be agreed either on lightweight or light welterweight. Can you imagine Don King announcing this fight? Only in America! I can imagine him holding the Mexican flag in one hand and the Panamanian Flag on the other, screaming out loud and laughing. I can imagine “El Cholo” working out in the gym jumping the rope, hitting the speed bag; and Julio Cesar Chavez training surrounded by a hundred people who gather only to see him train.

Remembering Julio Cesar Chavez: The Lion Of Culican

chavez2422442By Steven Pink: Acknowledging that Julio Cesar Chavez is a legend in Mexico would be to indulge in a classic bout of understatement. In the eyes of many of his compatriots the Lion of Culican stands alone, resplendent and unrivaled as the greatest fighter his country has ever produced. His 37-world title fights and 27 successful defences remain a record to this day, while his victims read like a roll call of 80’s and 90’s boxing luminaries.
