Chavez Jr. fought like he was just there to survive against Canelo instead of there to win. Chavez Sr. tried to encourage the 30-year-old Chavez Jr. to let his hands go and give him more punches per round, but he couldn’t or wouldn’t do it against Canelo.

Chavez also likes the ability of Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs), and he feels he’s got power, boxing skills and lots of knockouts that show how good he is. By Eric Baldwin: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is pretty excited about a potential record-breaking fight between his son former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs). The negotiations are going on for a fight between the two Mexican stars on May 6 at a still determined location in the United States. The weight for the fight will be at catchweight of 165 pounds.
Chavez sees the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight as one that will break attendance records. For that to happen, it will need to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. There aren’t any other larger venues than that for the fight to take place in the U.S.

By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Julio Cesar Chavez says that Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could beat middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin right now if they face each other. Chavez is just not sure when the fight will take place between them. Chavez didn’t voice frustration at Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KOs) not taking the fight against Golovkin, but his face had a look of exasperation when he made a comment about not knowing when the two will face each other.
Canelo is supposed to be fighting Golovkin in late September 2017, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya. However, the last we heard from De La Hoya, Golovkin would need to agree to an eight-figure offer for the fight. It’s seen as a flat fee and not a percentage deal that Golovkin was offered.

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez believes that Saul Canelo Alvarez is improving with each and every fight, but he feels that the fans want to see him fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Chavez wants to see Canelo take the fight, as do many followers of the sport. Chavez also thinks that his son former World Boxing Council middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) will eventually fight Canelo.
Chavez says that Julio Jr. is looking to move back down to 160, and he thinks it’s possible. As of now, Chavez Jr. hasn’t fought in the 15 months since struggling to beat middleweight Marcos Reyes by a 10 round decision in July 2015. It doesn’t look like the 30-year-old Chavez Jr. is going to be making an appearance at 160 anytime soon.

Chavez likes Canelo’s skills that he’s now showing right now, and he feels that he could give the 34-year-old Golovkin his first loss of his 12-year pro career. Unlike a lot of people who feel that Canelo is hiding behind his catch-weights as an excuse to avoid the Golovkin fight, Chavez sees Canelo as unafraid of the Kazakhstan fighter.

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez is very concerned with his son former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) after he left training camp this week. Chavez Sr. sees this as a potentially discipline issue. However, Chavez Jr. says he wanted to run on the beach after having an injury problem in training camp. He also wanted to see his daughter.
Chavez Jr. is training for a potential April 30 title fight against WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack (20-1-1, 12 KOs).
“I don’t know what happened,” said Chavez Sr. to ESPN. “I’m very sad and disappointed but also very concerned about his lack of discipline. He was preparing well in Big Bear.”
