Pacquiao dominates Vargas, but fails to impress

vargas2223

By Chris Williams: 37-year-old Manny Pacquiao was very economical with his punches tonight in winning a less than impressive 12 round unanimous decision victory over World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Jessie Vargas on Top Rank pay-per-view. Pacquiao fought like he was afraid to get clipped by Vargas. Many of the rounds were very close, and the only reason why were close was because looked timid. The fight took place at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It wasn’t a sellout, which doesn’t surprise me. It wasn’t a big enough fight.

Vargas was dropped by a left hand from Pacquiao in the 2nd round. Vargas appeared to be dropped twice more in the fight, but the referee ruled them as slips.

Will Pacquiao retire if he loses to Vargas?

pac975

By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) is in the position where he can potentially retire a legend tonight in his fight against Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) on Top Rank pay-per-view from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. If Vargas can take Pacquiao’s scalp from him tonight, it would be a fine pelt to add to his growing collection of nice pelts.

Looking at Vargas and Pacquiao stand next to each other during the face off on Friday, Vargas looked like a monster in size. He’s HUGE in size. There’s no way that Pacquiao is going to be able to stand up to the big Mexican American if he tries to stand and trade with him, because Vargas is one of the biggest guys in the 147lb division right now.

Mayweather expects Pacquiao to get free pass if he loses to Vargas

Floyd Mayweather

By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t saying whether he thinks Manny Pacquiao will lose tonight in his fight against WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, but he does think that he’ll get a pass by the boxing fans if that does happen. Mayweather sees fans blaming a Pacquiao loss on his advanced age rather than on him losing to a guy that was simply better than him.

Pacquiao is only 37, so there shouldn’t be any reason to blame a loss on him being old. The 39-year-old Mayweather thinks that if it were him losing the fight, then the boxing fans would say it was because he was never what people thought he was.

Vargas expects superstardom after he beats Pacquiao

pac8511

By Dan Ambrose: WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) sees a win over Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) leading to him becoming a superstar in boxing. Vargas feels that fighters need a win over a big name to get them to the next level. Vargas can test his theory by going out and beating Pacquiao in their fight on Top Rank pay-per-view at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What Vargas doesn’t realize is that Pacquiao is too old and past it for him to become a star if he beats him. At best, Vargas might become a little more recognizable to the fans that order the Pacquiao-Vargas fight, but that’s about it.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Jessie Vargas – Official weights

pac86

By Allan Fox: Former eight division world champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) made weight on Friday with him weighing in at a light 144.8lbs for his comeback fight against World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) this Saturday night on November 5 on Top Rank pay-per-view at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight starts at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday night.

Vargas weighed in at 146.5lbs, and looked to be in great shape. There wasn’t much of a face off at all. Vargas looked like he was just happy to be there, and he was on friendly terms with the 37-year-old Pacquiao, as if the two were friends rather than foes Compared to past Pacquiao weigh-ins, this one had a much different feel to it.

Pacquiao interested in Khan fight

1-alvarez-canelo-khan (10)

By Scott Gilfoid: If 37-year-old Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) can get by Jessie Vargas (27-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night to win his WBO welterweight title, we could be seeing a fight between him and Britain’s Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) in the future. Pacquiao says he’s open to fighting the 29-year-old Khan.

Of course, the decision obvious wouldn’t be up to Pacquiao. His promoter Bob Arum is the one who picks out opponents for him to fight. If Arum chose to offer Pacquiao other fighters, then Khan will be out of luck. Khan was in the running for Pacquiao’s last fight in April of this year, but instead Tim Bradley was selected for that fight date.

Pacquiao and Donaire on same card on Saturday

1-team_pacman

By Eric Baldwin: Top Rank is working hard in trying to attract interest in their pay-per-view card by putting Filipino stars Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) and Nonito Donaire (37-3, 24 KOs) on Same card on Top Rank pay-per-view from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The idea is by having two popular fighters in Pacquiao and Donaire on the same card, boxing fans will want to purchase it. I’m not sure if it’s going to work out that way, because the match-ups are less than compelling.

Sanchez: Golovkin could go down to 154 for Pacquiao

golovkin633

By Chris Williams: Trainer Abel Sanchez says middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin could do down to 154 to accommodate welterweight Manny Pacquiao for a fight if his promoter was serious about wanting to make that fight. Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum recently floated the idea of a fight between Pacquiao and Golovkin if Pacquiao wins his title fight against WBO 147lb champion Jessie Vargas this Saturday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Arum initially said Golovkin was a possibility for Pacquiao. However, Arum then backtracked and said he wasn’t serious about putting Pacquiao in with Golovkin. That’s not surprising, because there’s a potential for injury for Pacquiao if he were to take on a guy with the kind of power that Golovkin possesses.
