Glen Johnson will not win the Super Six tournament

Image: Glen Johnson will not win the Super Six tournamentBy Scott Gilfoid: Yahoo Sports writer Kevin Iole says that 41-year-old Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KO’s) will be the one to benefit now that Mikkel Kessler and Andre Dirrell have been forced to drop out of the Super Six tournament but I’m not so sure about that. Johnson has lost two out of his last three fights against Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud, and I doubt Johnson has much left in him to do anything other than throw a lot of weak punches and get beat.

Glen Johnson will likely be weight drained and won’t be effective against Allan Green

By Dan Ambrose: The choice of picking 41-year-old light heavyweight Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KO’s) to square off with Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s) in the 3rd stage of the Super Six tournament is going to be a bad one, as far as I can tell. Picking a fighter as old and as big as Johnson to replace WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler strikes me as both short sighted and desperate. Clearly, Showtime chose Johnson because he was better known than some of the other options that they could have selected due to Johnson’s fights against Chad Dawson.

Is Glen Johnson a poor replacement for Kessler against Green?

Image: Is Glen Johnson a poor replacement for Kessler against Green?By Jason Kim: Showtime obviously was desperate to find a replacement for WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler when he pulled out of the Super Six tournament recently rather than stick it out and fight American Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s). In selecting Johnson, Showtime is getting a fighter that has lost two out of his last three fights and who has gotten to the point where he struggles to make the 175 pound light heavyweight limit. It almost seems as if Showtime wasn’t aware of the fact that Johnson is a light heavyweight and not a super middleweight.

Image: Glen Johnson vs. Allan Green on November 6th - Super Six tournamentBy Dan Ambrose: On November 6th, 41-year-old former IBF light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KO’s) will be stepping in to replace the injured Mikkel Kessler in a fight against Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s) in the stage 3 part of the Super Six tournament at MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnson hasn’t fought at super middleweight in ages and he’s now having major problems just making the light heavyweight limit of 175.

Glen Johnson replaces Kessler in Super Six, will now face Allan Green

Image: Glen Johnson replaces Kessler in Super Six, will now face Allan GreenBy Jim Dower: 41-year-old light heavyweight Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KO’s) will be the replacement for Mikkel Kessler in the Super Six tournament, according to boxing news from AP. Although Johnson isn’t in the light heavyweight division, there really wasn’t too many available fighters to replace Kessler on this short notice. Johnson will now be facing Allan Green next in what will likely be the only fight for Johnson in the Super six tournament. For him to make it into the semi finals, he will have to knockout Green and then get help from the other Super Six fighters. Johnson has lost two out of his last three fights, however.

41-year-old Glen Johnson could be Allan Green’s next opponent

By Jason Kim: I figured Allan Green (29-2, 20 KO’s) wouldn’t likely be getting much for his replacement opponent in the Super Six tournament after Mikkel Kessler bowed out of the tourney with an eye problem. However, I at least expected that Green would be facing someone from his own weight class, since the tournament is being pooled from fighters from the super middleweight division.

Cloud-Johnson: Another war on the horizon

ByPeter Wells: Tomorrow night in St Louis a surprisingly great undercard fight between, International Boxing Federation (IBF) Light Heavyweight ruler Tavoris Cloud and tough veteran Glen Johnson will slug it out in a very interesting match up. It’s been nearly a year since the 28 year old from Florida last stepped in the ring to win the IBF strap against aging Clinton Woods in a great 12 round battle. It was only the 2nd time he’d gone the distance and the 1st that he’d gone 12 rounds. After 65 contests the 41 year old Jamaican who now lives in Florida has gone that 12 rounds a number of occasions, most recently being his 2 defeats to Chad Dawson. After 13 defeats he’s now fighting to stay in the game.

The Cloud vs. Johnson bout will be taking place on the undercard of the light welterweight match-up between IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander vs. former WBA title holder Andriy Kotelnik.

Cloud-Johnson on Devon Alexander’s August 7th St Louis homecoming

Image: Cloud-Johnson on Devon Alexander’s August 7th St Louis homecomingBy Peter Wells: It wasn’t too long ago that we heard the news that Glen Johnson’s IBF Light Heavyweight title challenge against unbeaten Tavoris Cloud was off. Now the fight is on again on August 7th in St Louis. Though the main attraction of course, will be hometown hero Devon Alexander. The WBC Light Welterweight ruler is still undecided on his next opponent after talks with rival Zab Judah fell through. Zab was very adamant on returning to St Louis after last time out dethroned another St Louis hero and good friend of Devon, Cory Spinks. I’m sure Devon was excited about getting revenge on Judah.
